Or Gordon's buzzer beater goes in against Memphis? Let's say the last couple years have been identical, but Stans just happens to have a Sweet 16 on his resume.

It's like someone said about the pretty girl, No matter how hot she appears to be, someone, somewhere is tired of her shit! Our fanbase is tired of Rick Stansbury and short of a final four appearance, his departure is inevitable.

Posts: 324 02/22/12 07:07 PM	Good coaches KNOW their time at a single school is limited, especially in the mega $$ age that we're in now. Ask Dan Mullen how long he plans to stay in Starkville if you ever meet him personally and see what he tells you. He told me 10 yrs. Figured he got a 2 yr pass, and then he'd piss off 10% of the fanbase per year. I'd say he's probably absolutely correct with that assessment. He's probably already right on schedule. The fact is, unless you win National Championships, or are competitive at the highest of levels ALMOST every season, you have a limited lifespan at any given school, especially at the BCS level. This isn't going to get "better", it will get worse, with the increasing revenue/budgets that we've all got coming(SEC network, etc). I'd say Mark Richt's relationship with UGA is a pretty fair comparison to Stans at this point. Both are the most tenured coaches in the SEC in their respective sports as well(at a single institution)..

Posts: 325 02/22/12 07:37 PM	just PLAY HARD...and succeed in accomplishing very distinct goals you set for yourself preseason(I'm not saying public goals, but it's something that should be discussed between coach/AD every year, in order to push the coach to succeed, while he pushes the players harder). It's not so much about the actual wins and losses to me...as it is about the intangibles of the teams. I guess I'd term myself a "student of the game", really of all three sports. I watch how they are played, both fundamentally and effortwise, moreso than if they are won or loss. Basketball is the only sport in which we don't routinely satisfy me fundamentally or effort-wise. It becomes more upsetting because I realize the talent that is there. Our basketball team just does NOT play hard. When they try(last night), they run out of gas(always, always, ALWAYS a lack of conditioning, I don't care if we're playing 4 on 5 for 40 minutes). Mental toughness and the ability to overcome CAN be taught, through incredibly hard work, yet we have NO mental toughness. We haven't possessed any of this in a long time. Hustle and Effort are what feeds a crowd energy. We don't play much with either in basketball. We play with a ton of both in baseball, football, and softball....

Posts: 7332 02/22/12 08:28 PM Dr. Death	It's really hard to say how most of us would think about Rick if he had the exact same last 3 years but had a Sweet 16 appearance 8 years ago. You simply can't forget about: the level of effort, the lack of discipline, the unbelievable black eye that was put on the perception of the program last year with off the court crap, the inability to develop players from a strength and conditioning standpoint, the continuous ground hog's day moments from a coaching standpoint, and probably most of all, the way the fanbase at our home games have finally started to react to this train wreck. I know the Sweet 16 litmus test has been championed a lot around here lately but I think it has been done so as a way to show that we have some of the variables to be successful and get to the dance occasionally but the chinks in our armor continue to bite us every time we arrive. There is only one constant with all of those teams that Stans has taken to the tournament. For me, I still go back to something I posted a few weeks ago and this is what makes me think that Stansbury needs to either retire or be let go: If you were asked to describe the culture of our basketball team in just a few words, would you even consider using any of the following? If being honest with yourself you can't do it, then it's time for him to go. Hard working Fundamental basketball Disciplined Driven Well coached High energy Play well as a team Highly focused

Posts: 199 02/23/12 09:06 AM	this should be fans everywhere. most basketball teams don't over-achieve every year. Cinderella's are different every year. The media tried like heck to make Gonzaga out west the yearly Cinderella, and it just became reality that they were that good. We have had teams that haven't just fallen short, but fallen way short. Most of that is within our power to control. Seems like I recall Duke having this sort of issue where they were always finishing high, but could never get over the hump. We aren't even getting it in gear, as a program, to make a run at the hump (no pun intended).

Posts: 5 02/23/12 10:36 AM	I'm reading "Duke vs. Kentucky, the last great game" which I highly recommend. Coach K was on the verge of being run out of town because he kept making it to Final Fours. Making it there was not good enough anymore...they had to win it all or the fans were not going to continue to tolerate it any longer. The same thing would be going on with Stans even if he had made 3 Sweet 16s. The expectation level would just turn up a notch. If Mullen continues to win 7ish games a year and we go to Gator, Music City, Liberty or Peach...people will not continue to be happy. Then we'll want to take another step, fans will want the Cotton, Capital One and Outback. It's just the nature of things. With Stans, it's not just about the tournament at this point for me. His team has no self control and no discipline. I was mad that we lost, particularly the way we did...but the attempted trip by Moultrie and the shove by Bost are perfect examples. And these are two of the players that I think give the most effort, they are the two with the most to lose. You can say that was playing hard, it happens everywhere but that is garbage. It's a sign that the team is mentally weak and can't deal with adversity. But what do you expect from the players when their coach is making smart ass comments that he doesn't think will appear in a paper only to have them show up and then he tries to say it was out of context. He isn't responsible for his own actions or disciplined, why will the people that supposedly follow him be responsible for theirs? He was faced with adversity about his stupid comment and he folded saying it wasn't what he meant, they were faced with adversity by the ass whipping they were taking and they resorted to that crap.

Just like with any job the person in charge can become complacent. I am extremely excited that they did away with the divisions so we can't shield our so-called success with "western division titles" any longer.
