Wasn't it not too long ago that a "news" source claimed MSU as the fattest college in America? | #5
|
Didn't they interview only like 100 students? That's probably how these "national" studies are done. They go park outside a Barnhills in a
small MS Delta town and gather statistics.

JohnDawg wrote: I don't know if MSU is the fattest, but MSU is way fatter than it was when I was there in school in the early 90's. Back then, fat was an exception instead of the norm. Just about every sorority chick was hot or at least slim - not so anymore. |

I wonder if this ranking is like most of the other rankings | #10

that have Mississippi in dead last in that if you take out the Delta counties, suddenly Mississippi is about 25th on most lists instead of 50th.

I was actually in a conference recently with Dan Jones in his old role as head of UMC. He made a presentation about Mississippi and its fatness. Not only is
Mississippi consistently the fattest state in the nation, he showed the results of a recent study he participated in of 50 selected sites throughout the world.
The study revealed that the #1 fattest site in the world was Holmes County and #2 was Jackson. So we are in fact the fattest place in the world. What an
honor.

It's our culture. We have terrible eating habits, everything is fried with gravy, biscuits and some fatback in the vegetables. You never see people out
exercising. We are killing our kids with fried fatty foods.Mississippi is #1 in diabetes also.We need a change in
culture where daily exercise and foods lower in fat become the norm.Times have changed it's time for us to change as well.

And you replied to me, why? | #14

When they start making healthy food that tastes exactly like bacon, gravy, and fried chicken, I'll start eating. But not a moment sooner.

People with fatty foods kill people.
Here are just a few of the key ingredients: dynamite, pole vaulting, laughing gas, choppers - can you see how incredible this is going to be? - hang gliding,
come on!

That's why I said it's time for us to change. It's irresponsible for us as adults to eat ourselves to death or at least into HBP and diabetes and
expect our kids to pay for it.It's the kids that are left behind to grieve for lost love ones who put themselves in poor health by eating foods that are
bad for them. The kids are left picking up the unpaid hospital bills and funeral expense.I bet your thinking would be different if we were talking about an
alcholic or a drug addict. It's all irresponsible it's just the culture in Mississippi says it's ok to eat junk everyday because it taste good.Just
like the drug addict likes to get high because it feels good. They are both killing you it's just one vice is accepted the other is not.

I'm right there with you. I'm somewhere between 50 & 60 lbs lost since the first of the year. I was on blood pressure medicine, on the verge of
cholesterol medicine, and the doctor told me to cut out beer and red meat because my liver enzymes were so high. I went back to the doctor at the end of May
and all my numbers were back to normal plus I'm off the blood pressure medicine.

A stern warning from the doctor about a clear & present danger is what got me going too.

I lived all my working life in MS (fattest state) and move to Colo (thinnest state) and have gained 15# in two years. Go figure. I asked my doctor about it
and he said I want to back to MS catfish rather than CO beef. Problem is you can't find catfish in CO.
I blame it on retirement and spending more time indoors during winters. But my experience has been interesting. |
