I'm extremely glad he stayed because it helps us alot- but for him personally, taking a chance and coming on out in this weak draft may have been better
for him

I hope Varnardo goes undrafted, so I don't have to hear y'all talk about the NBA.* | #3

He could have slipped into the first round this year, next year I don't think so.. Good for MSU, bad for SWAT.

I really don't see him being a first round pick either year** | #5

I support the two most frustrating teams in America: The New Orleans Saints and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Varnado is simply better than Patrick Patterson, yet Patterson continues... | #6

to get rated higher in the draft. I really don't understand, but I have a feeling that after the year is over it will all shake out. The biggest problem is
that you have no leverage at all when you are a senior other than hoping a team wants you before another.

Varnado is better than Patterson at the college level. | #7
|
However, Varnado is going to get pushed around every night in the NBA just like he did against Washington. Worse on most nights. Patterson has the body to
hold up against those big guys at the next level. I agree with dawgstudent, I don't see Varnado in the 1st round even if he had come out this year.
He's kind of like a lot of our players over the years (Austin, Wilson, Zimmerman, Roberts), real good at the college level, but not good enough for the
NBA.

Agree on JV. He's a great college player, probably better than Patterson, but Patterson has better pro potential because he's got a pro body that can
handle the collisions they take in the pros, and he's got more offensive potential.
JV doesn't have NBA-level inside scoring ability in my opinion. He's a sick shot blocker, but I don't know how well that will translate to the NBA when he'll be dealing with better players and bigger bodies. If he had a body like Ben Wallace, he could survive as a defensive specialist on the inside in the NBA. I just don't know if he'll hold up though. |

Reading stuff like this kills me.... | #9

"5. Renardo Sidney, 6-9, 260, F, Fr., Mississippi State: If he is in tip-top shape, there may be no one more talented - including Wall and Favors - in the
country. He doesn't always play hard and his recruitment was a mess." If he doesn't make it this is going to be a bigger let down than Ellis,
Outlaw or Bender.

Was surprised by the leaveout of SWAT | #10

but also bummed to see the way they brought up our previous recruiting woes

every other 2010 mock draft has him in the first round. | #11

chad ford of espn says if varnado bulks up and plays stronger, he can move into the late lottery. otherwise, he's mid-to-late first. ford does a pretty
good job of nba reporting and scouting.
it's really a crapshoot at this point. i don't think anyone knows anything right now, other than the fact that there will be more talented big men in next year's draft than there were this year. varnado might have been a marginal first rounder this year, though, so it makes sense to work on what you need to work on to improve your chances next year. the difference in patterson and varnado is two-fold: size and offensive skills. varnado made big-time strides last year on the offensive end, and another year of working on that will help. also, he knows he needs to be thicker to bang in the NBA, which he seems to be working on. i do think, though, that varnado is more of the NBA "elite athlete" than patterson. he plays above the rim, which is huge in their eyes. patterson doesn't, and that will be his biggest weakness in the draft. |
