2000 State vs 2008 Ole Miss.... |
Lead | ||

Who wins with both teams playing at their peak? Discuss.
I support the two most frustrating teams in America: The New Orleans Saints and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

I hate to say it but I think Ole Miss 2008 would pull it out.... | #1
|
Houston Nutt had that teams number back then and he would have it again with his team from last year. It would be a fun game though. Ole Miss's pass rush
vs. our OLine would definitely be more competitive than it was last year. Our DB's vs. Jevan Sneed and Co. would be fun to watch also.

I'd rather go with 1999.... | #2

That defense could stop anyone.

1997 - all we had to do was beat Arkansas and Ole Miss to win the West
1998 - needed help and we won the west 1999 - 8-0 going into November and we controlled our own destiny 2000 - all we had to do was beat Arkansas and Ole Miss to win the West So 3 out of the 4 years, we controlled our own destiny in November and didn't close the deal. The one year we didn't control our destiny, we actually win the West.

I think 2000 State was better than 1999 State as a whole. The way that team played aGAINST Florida and Auburn was unreal.

Probably better to go with a team.... | #5
|
that actually won the Egg Bowl that season. 2000 team was great for two games, 1999 was good for 12. And the 2000 team had some huge laspes, gave up 30 plus
points to MTSU, blew two leads aGAINST Ole Miss, blew a lead aGAINST A&M, and do we need to post Kendall Roberson aGAIN?

My original question... | #7

was at their peak. 2000 State tops 1999 State and that's the reason I put them in the question.

I think if you put the 1999 team at their peak and the 2000 team at their peak, 2000 Team wins everytime.

You're wrong there DS. | #11

The 2000 team's defense absolutely sucked. We gave up only 156 points in 12 games in 1999. In 2000, we gave up twice that many (306 points). The 2000 team had a better offense no doubt, but if the 1999 team and the 2000 team had somehow played each other, it wouldn't have been close. Most people point to the 2001 season as the beginning of the decline of MSU football, but the real decline started on 10/21/00 when we gave up 45 points in the loss to LSU at Baton Rouge. |

Dammit!! We had it! | #12 | ||

We had established ourselves as a solid contender in the SEC. We were feared. We had a signature style of play. We pissed it all away. I still can't
believe it. If we would have had leadership worth a shit, we would have kept rolling until now. Imagine Starkville and the school if we had continued on that
same path.

play the whole Egg Bowl that year, you probably win though. Y'all were beating our ass until Madkin came out. That was the last of the good team against
good team Egg Bowls.

Rebheaded Stranger wrote: Yep 1997-2000 was a good run for quality Egg Bowls. ESPN picked that game up right about the perfect time, and they dropped it when Eli graduated (wisely). The goal line stand game in Oxford in 1992 was a match of two pretty good teams as well, but other than those years, there has typically been at least one of us that has had nothing to play for but pride. |

teams at their peak.
I would take the 2000 team that beat Auburn and Florida in back to back weeks over any week of the 1999 team.

I understand and you're just still wrong. | #16

Even in the Florida game we gave up 35 points. No way our 2000 offense does anything close to our 1999 defense as they did to Florida's defense that day.
