Starkville news: The Grill moving... |
Lead | ||
|
Haven't been around the board much the past couple of days to post, but I did hear from very reliable sources that (as of right now) The Grill will not be
renewing their lease in the Cotton District. Their plans are to build a new building near the old creamery/dairy/(whatever it was) on the corner of Lampkin
and Montgomery. I didn't see this posted on the first couple of pages, so forgive me if Germans.
Edited to add: Apparently, their lease runs through the end of the year.

So, are they assuming Cotton Mills will actually be built and are looking to capitalize on the increased foot traffic (Edit: Just realized Cotton Mills
won't provide traffic at the Montgomery/Lampkin intersection)? I'm beginning to have my doubts regarding the project and would love to have those in
loop in Starkville (cowbell9 and dogpound11) tell me otherwise.
On another note, if the Grill is indeed moving, that location is prime for a legit sports bar if Sunday sales are ever approved. Are you newly elected aldermen listening?

Agreed. | #3 | ||

Why move? Prime real estate with plenty of foot traffic. If space is holding them back, couldn't they build up? I'm not liking the sound of this. I
have a mental image of new grill looking like Abners or some other BS when it's all said and done.
Edit to add: I'm assuming they aren't being raped on their lease. |

No.... the key was the old pre-renovation atmosphere and menu. | #4
|
They killed it when they renovated.
Oh.... and how many different iterations have the plans for the old creamery undergone in the last decade? Having said that, the creamery location would be a kick ass locale for a restaurant. But here's hoping somebody takes over the old grill building and brings it back old school.

They lost me when the "Cotton District Grill" ceased to exist. Was never the same.

i thought the key was the cheese sticks. | #8

which have become mysteriously smaller since 1998. the last time i went, i also remember that the chicken used in the grilled chicken sandwich had been
changed and wasn't the same quality. the location was great, though.

The killer for me has been the hot wings. | #10
|
I used to really like their hot wings, but they changed the sauce and officially destroyed my taste for them. I have gone in since that change and requested
them 'old style' which works sometimes...but not every time.

I used to do that with an old menu item called the Texas Club... | #11
|
For the first year or two, they always got it right. Then, the chicken changed. And finally nobody was left that knew what I was talking about. It was like Flo
& Eddie's burning, but bit by bit.

rocked back in the day. With an order of mozzarella cheese sticks with ranch and marinara mixed to dip them in, what a great college meal. And it had the
coldest draft beer in town.

Comvest Properties and Nicholas Properties... | #13

Are still in negotiations with the University on the Cooley Property. Like I've said before, projects of this magnitude just take time when there are so
many details to be worked out. Especially with a state college, the IHL, the National Historic Trust, Department of Archives and History, etc.
As far as the Grill relocating. I haven't heard that and asked around and nobody seems to know anything about it. I'm calling bullshit for right now, but it may happen. Anyways, they ruined our old Grill!!! Oh, and Dan Camp owns the building they lease.
You've got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the
chips and dip coming.

I would imagine the new building will be similar to the Tupelo location in Fair Park | #16
|
Tupelo grill is much nicer atmosphere wise, but menu is the same. As far as the location of the old Borden Plant, Tabor Development has taken it over and is
renovating it into office/retail space. Tabor is a first class operation, and already runs the shopping center where McAllisters, Papa Johns, etc are located,
in addition to several apartment complexes. The building in the Cotton District would be prime for a nice bar that would have inside seating and entertainment,
as opposed to the outside venues like Bin612 and Rock Bottom.

Went to The Grill the Sunday after the Arkansas game this year. I Hadn't been back to Starkville or the grill in 10 years and you guys are dead on. Very disappointed. Could have also been how hungover I was. On a side note; the baptist church near by had just gotten out and the amount of good looking ass in that place was impressive. Brought me back to the gold ole days and Thursday nights at the Grill. Except half of them were with their parents. |

DP - Is Bill Curry around Strakville anywhere? | #20
|
He opened what originally was the District Cafe there back when I was in school. When I lived in the neighborhood, we spent many a lazy evening there. At one
time, Bill was in Jxn but I thought someone told me he returned to Starkville to get back in the rest/bar biz. I was just curious if he was the proprietor of
any local watering hole now.
