If you think today's Cowboys are frustrating in the post-season, they had nothing on the 1960's Dallas Cowboys. This was a team Tom Landry slowly
built from nothing (literally nothing, they went 0-11-1 his first season). However, by 1966 they became a Championship contender, only to lose to those great
Vince Lombardi Packer teams, and later to the Cleveland Browns in the playoffs.
It was in the 1970's where they became "America's Team", and it was the 1990's where they became the most Dominant Franchise in sports, only to have Jerruh Jones piss it all away because he thought he was a smarter football coach than Jimmy Johnson.
Interesting bit of trivia- Mike Ditka has the reputation as "Mr. Bear". If you were to ask him who his second-greatest football influence was (after George Halas), he'd tell you Tom Landry. In 1969, Landry took a chance on Ditka, a 30 year old cripple (the Bears were notorious for having horrible team doctors and ruining the careers of many great players like Dick Butkus). Ditka worked his ass off (as only Iron Mike can), became the starting Tight End and caught a TD pass in Super Bowl 6. Later, he became an assistant for Landry before becoming the Head Coach for Da Bears.
