Is signing Renardo Sidney worth the risk(s)? |

Assuming we sign him, it will be interesting to come back in 10-12 months and look at these results...

is a better problem to have than to not know where and how you're going to fill in gaps. Sure Kodi is playing team ball now, Osby will be better, Bailey
will too hopefully (but unlikely), and we signed Lewis, but I'd rather have a mcdonalds AA than any of those 4 playing inside with V.

We were already going to win 30 without him. | #3

With him, there's no excuse for Stans not to win 40 games.

I don't see the risk. He would be the biggest recruit in the history of MSU basketball. (to actually show up) Our fan base kills me sometimes.

If he is signing with Ole Miss, he is definitely worth the risk.
If he is signing with MSU, no way is he worth a guaranteed NCAA investigation. All kidding aside, its a no brainer. Of course he is worth the risk. Rick knows the AAU game and knows how to do it without getting in trouble, so I think any risk of getting in trouble is almost non-existent. |

OleMiss Grad said we are on super secret probation and apparently so are the sanctions... |

My opinion | #8 | ||

Stansbury has been recruiting high profile players for a long time. If he thought that Sidney would bring an investigation then he would simply back off.
Remember Rick probably has the most job security as anyone on campus right now and the only thing that would change that is a consistent decline in the program over many years or sanctions from the NCAA. Him and Meo love State and have made no real attempt to jump to another job, so in short I dont believe he would take a risk like that with a spotlight player especially when the program is still solid. My belief would change of course if he were coming off of three consecutive losing seasons and he had to take a risk to keep his job. |

This is Stansbury's big opportunity. | #10

He has had some trouble landing the big fish, especially the ones that seem to have alot of interest in us. Stans has been considered a great recruiter and he
gets alot of guys that go well together as a team, but he cant ever seem to get that game changer we need. Jamont kinda was, but I would say most of us might
think he hurt the team way more than a true game changer should. I think Keith Gallon is one that comes to mind. We could have had him, but we let him get
away. He would have been a beast down low and the type of guy like a DeJuan Blair that is a big physical body that can command the post. Hopson is another
example, although I wont entirely blame that on Stans because I believe Hopson's mom played a decent part in that. I think Renardo is the type of player
that can command the post, take over a game, and be a type of player that by can win a few extra games. Stans has needed this kind of guy for a while now.

I agree with you This would be his game changer, but I couldn't see him taking a BIG risk as everyone is making Sidney out to be.

We have had some good teams under Stansbury, but one reason we haven't made it any further than the second round is because of depth like the year we had
Roberts, Bowers, Power, Frazier, and Vincent, and then off of the bench we had Ervin and Big Feces.
Or because we were one dimensional like last year when we were small much of the time. Sidney, should he come, and Varnado return, would allow us to be deep with guys like Ravern, Phil, and Osby coming off of the bench, and it would allow us to play big or small. It would help Varnado become even better because he wouldn't be constantly double teamed or have to rebound against a center and power forward. Also, if Swat gets in foul trouble, it wouldn't affect us as much. Also, Kodi would be difficult for most small forwards to guard and I have to imagine that Sidney would be difficult for most power forwards to guard. Hopefully, it would allow Barry to be the spot up three point shooter he is and not have to try to be "the man". The downside? Maybe he has a tough set of parents to deal with, but I imagine that comes with the territory. Will he get us put on probation? I kind of doubt it. I mean, if he was going to the highest bidder, I would imagine that Arizona could outbid us for him among others. "Because just being good kids who make good grades isn't good enough anymore."- John Cohen
"This league doesn't care how hard you try. This league cares about having real players who can perform certain skills. If you try to throw a fastball in and you miss the middle of the plate, the league doesn't care that you're a really good kid. The game says you better execute the pitch." - John Cohen |

...though I have no idea what "risks" you are talking about, the risks are too high.
Do you really want to risk landing one of the best players in the nation? Do you really want to risk getting MSU basketball back to the level it was when L. Roberts was here? Do you really want to risk coach34's Stansbury hate-fest suddenly drying up due to too much success? Do you really want to risk Stansbury surpassing Mullen as the mose beloved coach on campus? Do you really want to risk driving 600 miles to a sweet sixteen site where MSU is playing? I don't. I want to play it safe. I hate risks. Risks get you in trouble. |

Why would we not take him at MSU?
Do we really want to make it to the Sweet 16 under Stans. Now I would love to hear what offense Stans and Co actually uses. At times its the "Stand 4 and Move 1" and other times its the "Jack up the 3 within 5 seconds, Regardless of Where You are on the Floor". My personal favorite is the "Give it to Randy for the Last Shot" offense...its worked so well for us.....2/24/09...mstateglfr |
