They played 15 minutes of good basketball. | #3

But against Carolina you have to play 20. That closing sequence (Martin three, Hansbrough FT) was big to keep it under 10.

How is LSU an 8 seed? | #7 | ||
|
When I suggested that they would be a couple of weeks ago, two people who "know a lot about sports" told me there was NO way the SEC Champion would
be an 8 seed.
Oh really?
Your Signature ... "But Blew said conference RPI would only allow the SEC to get 3 teams in"...... "I still maintain that the SEC gets 4...Slive
heading up the committee should all but make 4 happen..." ......"Auburn is being talked about heavily after beating LSU and has 10 SEC wins, one more
big win would push them over the edge...perfect chance for the committee to slip the winner of this game into the Tourney (dont think for a second Slive hasnt
already thought of this)"..... "well, you are telling me that a commissioner that doesnt let SEC teams report each other to the NCAA anymore doesnt
care about representation by the conference in the NCAA Tourney? Really? Yes, he does have to leave before discussions over SEc teams, but if you dont think he
has made his feelings known to others before he leaves, your and idiot "..... Peaches, resident Bracketologist

Too bad LSU wasn't playing a #3 seed. | #10

But the loss to Mississippi State didn't matter.

Exactly. | #11 | ||

However, I did read that it's ok since the 1 seeds bowed out early in their conference tournaments as well.

Overall, I was pleased with the way the Tigers played | #12

So what if LSU wasn't an 8 seed. To me it doesn't matter, because you are in the NCAA tournament for one reason and one reason only...to win the whole thing - the National Championship. You will eventually have to knock out the king of the mountain eventually whether you do it in the 2nd round, elite 8 or whatever. LSU definitely showed that they can play with the top team and I left proud.

So what? | #14 | ||
|
Well, first - you came onto a Mississippi State message and down-played the significance of our win against LSU, calling it a MEANINGLESS game. Just a little
condescending and arrogant wouldn't ya say? I guess all the losses we've had to you in football have been MEANINGLESS too, since by the time we play
you, we've already lost one or two (or 3 or 4 or 5) games already and had no chance at the National Championship, rendering those games MEANINGLESS.
Second - you go and pretend like seeding doesn't matter and were really liking your chances against UNC after your big win against Butler, when in reality if you played the same kind of game you played yesterday, you'd have beaten almost ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE NATION had you not been playing UNC. Now while it is true, you may have to beat the king of the hill to win the whole damn thing, sometimes there are these things called upsets which could make your road the Championship Game a little easier. It happened to us in 1996. Had Princeton not beat UCLA, who knows what might have happened? So be proud about your moral victory over North Carolina. It's just too bad it was that game was MEANINGLESS.
Thank you, Mr. Greg Byrne.

Wait a minute... | #15 | ||

I didn't say it was a meaningless game for the Bulldogs. It was huge for the dawgs b/c they were not in the NCAA. I said it was meaningless for the
Tigers b/c they were already in the tournamament and didn't have nearly as much to play for at that time. In football, it's a little different b/c
every game is significant in college football toward winning the national championship. (apples v. oranges).
As far as my "arrogance" that you refer to, I merely stated an opinion on a message board and the Bulldog faithful didn't agree with me. So I can live with that, but that doesn't mean I am arrogant. I was stating an observation.

C'mon Stallion... | #16 | ||

you know losing to us in the SEC Tourney cost you guys a spot or two. Getting an 8 seed eliminated any chance you guys had...Even getting a 7 seed would have
given LSU a much better chance of going farther in the Tourney
It wasnt a meaningless game for you guys against us "The best proven coordinator out there from a big school and the best head coach from a non-BCS program would not give MSU the time of day." - Willie Cunningham...a k a Ol Blew...a k a irsdawg" - October 22nd, 2008 "Mullen has bombed at recruiting"- DiamondReb's brilliant take on recruiting |

Not really... | #17 | ||

LSU has made it to the final four before as an 11 seed. I didn't really feel that this LSU team would make a long run in the tournament anyway, but I am
pleased with their effort and their accomplishments.

spin it however you want.. | #18
|
but it was a back-handed comment and you know it.
I never said this board was exclusive to MSU fans, but I don't think many of us here care to hear how the reason we somehow beat the almighty LSU bball team was because the game was MEANINGLESS to LSU, when you know for a fact it was very meaningful. And that was proven yesterday, when if you had been a 6 or 7 seed and played the way you did yesterday, you'd have most likely won and would still have been playing next weekend. Trust me, we have plenty of our own fans on here to make excuses for some of the losses other teams have against us. We don't need fans of other schools degrading any kind of accomplishment we stumble upon every once in awhile. Maybe arrogance wasn't the correct term to use, but it sure comes off as sour grapes.
Thank you, Mr. Greg Byrne.

its all about match-ups... | #19
|
LSU needed to avoid a quality team with a good post presence...athletically, they match-up well with teams 1-4...sans Oklahoma, they would have been in much
better shape facing a 2 or 3 seed instead of the 1 seeds who have good big men

despite what you may think, I am also a State fan (with the exception of when State plays LSU). But I also call things like I see it. Had the tables been
turned, I would have said the same thing. For years, I have had the same opinion of conference tournaments - They are merely a vehicle for bubble teams and
long-shots to still get in the tournament or play the way out of the tournament. Once a team has certified itself in the tourney, the conference tournament is
meaningless. You can ask HD6 for a second opinion on that on where I have stood on the issue. I've seen if it for years. It just so happened that MSU v.
LSU was this year's example to me.
