Shit, we have size too. But how many burners have we missed on? Jamere Holland, PPL, Terry Grant and the guy behind him at Lumberton, etc. And we will probably lose Tracey Lampley to Auburn. Hopefully Oneal Wilder will be a solution to some of this problem.

and like I said, we're not really in a position to complain, because Croom has really stacked us up in the trenches with quality players, which is most
important. But what do you have to do to get some speed around here? That's the big difference in us and say, Auburn and LSU. Their guys are just a
little bigger or little faster or both.

has a lot to prove. He's a blazer, but he's too damn small to run behind an average to slightly above average line. That's what Bama's OL is
- slightly above average (even with an All-American). With the loss of Brown, State has at best an average line. Grant would be only somewhat better than an
Izell McGill behind this line. Gotta have buses like AD and Ducre to get it done.

There is more speed than you are giving credit for. | #3

The DB's are all fast. The LB's are SEC fast. The WR's could use a speed upgrade, but the RB's have been upgraded. Mabye DE.
I've made a huge mistake.

I disagree. I think true blue chip DTs are probably the most expensive prospects, if you're talking about players being for sale. Speed burners are a dime a dozen in comparison to finding 6'4, 320 pound guys that can move. |

That's what I was referring to... | #11

and I've always heard that there are two types of players that are really expensive in college sports:
1) really good DTs 2) a big time big man on the basketball court From what I've seen, we've never been able to land either of those things at our school, unless they couldn't read. So for that, I tend to believe that adage to be the truth. We can cheat all we want, but we still won't be able to afford to cheat to the level of the big boys, which means no true big time DTs or basketball centers. |

In the same sentence where Smith said we were playing fast, he said he was returning for his senior season. I wouldn't believe everything he says.1. Smith gained over 100 yds vs. MSU in that bowl. Why would a guy who gained over 100 yds be lying about the speed of the other team? He could have said "We got beat by a slower team...my 100+ yd. game is proof" & everybody would have believed him. 2. Seldom does a good college player declare for the NFL right after a bowl game. That's bad manners & makes the university & coach look bad (not to mention the player). 3. This board is all about: "It's not that State did some things right; the other team do some things wrong." That's why this thread is here in the 1st place: It's not that State has speed (which they don't according to the person who started this thread); it's just that the faster & better coached teams State beat last season didn't play to their potential on the day they played State. Coach34 is the master of this type bait & switch. When you can come to this board & twist everything into: "It's not that State played good last Saturday; the other team just played bad"...by using this line of bullshit reasoning, you can then dismiss everything State does that is positive. Like I said, Coach 34 is the master of this. Lastly, from what I say last year, only the top teams in the SEC had more speed than MSU (especially on defense). Outside this board, that would explain the 8 win season. But within the confines of this board, it just means a lot of teams (like Auburn, KY, Bama, etc) just screwed up against a slow, badly coached MSU on gameday. |
