Holland-Italy - score inside |

Pretty nice performance by Holland today... 3-0 win over Italy. While Van Nistelroy was clearly offsides on the first goal, the Dutch were well deserved
winners.
In other action, though I didn't see the game, France was held 0-0 by Romania.

france was as lackluster today as they were in their tune-ups. supposedly henry picked up a knock in a warm up, and viera was already out. could the so-called
group of death be a breeze for holland ... and a surprise from romania?
the first dutch goal was a yard offsides, but the win was highly deserved. the italians created little, and finished nothing. they surely missed cannavaro, but not that much. so far, the dutch, portuguese, and germans have looked the strongest, possibly adding the spaniards, who never win anything, tomorrow. ![]() ----- "Josh is a pain in the ass ... he had to go" |

I loathe the I-tai's and plus I love the way the Dutch play futbol. None of this sit back and batten down the hatches when you get a lead...they keep
attacking. Every coach in every sport should learn to keep doing what got you the lead in the first place. It makes the game a hell of alot more interesting
also.
As for the 1st goal....the explanation they gave late in the 2nd half was that the player off the pitch behind the goal is still active and thus, RVN was onside. Sketchy, but its the rule... Plus van Persie would have undoubtedly scored in the 2nd when they improperly called him offside. I love watching this Dutch team play. Them and Germany are my favorite teams...hate the italians and the pussy portuguese. some good games coming up in the next few days.

Good stuff.
As for the first goal and the explanation given... The Italian player that was out of bounds had just collided with his GK and was laying out of bounds on his back, apparently injured. Maybe they define "active" differently than I do. I've never understood how that situation is supposed to be ruled, though. The only thing I know for sure is that a defender who steps out of bounds on purpose to put an attacking player offside is to be shown a yellow card. Oh well... Side note: In 6 games, there have been 7 clean sheets. No game has seen both teams score. I find that interesting. There's someone in my head but it's not me. |

before the shot came back in. 5 minutes, ok I can see the argument that he's not active. But something quick like that, he's active.

can mean a lot of things for an Italian footballer. UEFA has come out and said it was the correct call, and that they actually had a very similar situation in
some match about a month ago.

off (and his team plays a man down), in which case he has to wait until the ref allows him back on again. Failure to do this properly (as stated elsewhere in
this thread) could result in a yellow card, depending on the situation. If a player get hurt and can't/doesn't ask for permission to come
off, its a judgement call for the ref as to whether the player is active or not. I didn't see the game, but if it was 5 seconds, the ref probably still
considered him active.

and, 4-1 through an (offsides) fabregas. right after russia wasted a fantastic opportunity to make it 3-2 heading into extra time.

was a real snorer except for ibrahimovic stellar goal. Greece has to be one of the most boring teams in the world to watch play.
Tomorrow's early match should be stellar: Portugal - Czech Republic.
