One more year before he gets his AA from Ole Miss. Can't wait to buy some of his baskets.

the SEC still has to make a decision on him | #2

since he is in a unique situation, one that has never happened before, there are no guidelines on whether they will let him play or make him sit one more year,
as if he had gone to juco. Since the end of partial qualifiers, no one has done anything like this. They can say no.

I am confident that his course load was rigorous.
Supposedly he's now approaching 350. Must have taken a health and nutrition class. |

Umm hasnt Powe's lawyer sued like ten times already and they said no like ten times? Regardless, the dude has not seen a football field in twenty years.
I'm sure he has maintained a good work out routine though.

Don't they miss you over on Gene's?
And I don't have to "play the old ADA"...but I'm sure Powe's attorney will. Bad PR for the SEC...refusing to let a student athlete with a learning disability play, even after jumping through all the NCAA hoops. Let 'em go ahead....I assure you, it will not be pretty. |

Yes, I'm sure the sec is worried about bad PR from Powe and Ole Miss. Maybe it has something to do with the cheating that Ole Miss did in an attempt to get
him eligible. I hope your not naive enough to think the NCAA keeps denying him because they just don't think he's smart enough. The bottom line
it's an embarrassing situation.

who can't read/write in school. You can say he is learning disabled and all that other bullshit all day long, but the bottom line is he is a retard.
Ole Miss is not obligated to him. They don't owe him shit at this point with the exception of letting him in school if he is otherwise eligible. That doesn't mean they have to let him play one down of football. |

I don't think you cheated, I think your dubmass head coach realized that he needed the guy on his defense and jumped thru MANY hoops to get him in.
Regardless, do you really think Ole Miss looks good continuing to fight for almost 4 years to get a guy on the football field, who STILL doesn't have a
high school diploma????

Wow...it took less than 15 posts in this thread... | #15

...for one of you fools to call Powe a "retard".
And it's not about my saying that he is LD...the NCAA has recognized that he does indeed have a disability. Doesn't matter at all if some message board moron believes it or not. |

The bottom line is this. The kid needs to be at a juco. If he has a learning disorder or whatever, a 4 year university is not the place he needs to begin his
education. That's what is bullshit. Oh he has ada please let him come to a four year university to play football. Yall spin it like yall just want to give
a kid a chance. Bullshit, if the kid could not play football he would be just another kid. Let him go to juco first and prove he can make the grades and then I
nor the NCAA will have any problem with it. It's the attempt to take the shortcut that pisses me off..

Who knows, but...(From Bruce Feldman) | #19
|
From Jared in Memphis: What is going on with "The Jailer" Jerrell Powe? I'm not an Ole Miss fan, but I am rooting for him to play college
football. Does he have a shot to play this year?
Feldman: Powe is very excited these days and word out of Oxford is that he has good reason to be. He is on track academically (he was told he needed to pass 24 hours for the year and have at least a 2.0 GPA.), and I spoke to him last night and he said his GPA is 2.3 and he's going to have enough credit hours. Among the courses he said he took were Geology, English, Public Speaking and an African-American studies class. He took Algebra as well and says he will be taking it again in the summer. "Me and Algebra, well, that's kinda like going one-on-one with Jake Long," he said. (I think that means he's fired up about the challenge of it.) Another big plus for Powe is that his wrist and back are feeling better and he's shed 38 pounds, going from a high of 381 to 343. He hopes to get down to 325 by the start of training camp. "I've been cutting out some of those fried foods I love so much," he said. "If I eat it, it's only maybe once a week." I'm happy for Powe. Anyone who has ever gotten to know him knows how gregarious and likeable he is. He's been through so much just to get to college. Lots of other folks would've given up. |

There is no doubt. But there is a reason the NCAA keeps denying him. Right? I mean shit do you think they just want to be mean to poor ol' Powe? My point
about juco was had he gone to juco to begin with then we would not be having this conversation. On top of that do you really think he is gonna contribute after
not playing for four years?

SasquatchReb wrote: yes, there are students that have a learning disability, but they are capable of reading and doing the college work with modifications such as extended time for tests and things like that. They are able to get into MSU without the aid of a legal team. As far as his "high school diploma", I guarantee you that the only reason he has one is because he can play football, and some idiot teacher(s) didn't want to deny his family a chance at "stardom". I've seen it happen before as a former high school teacher. And let me ask you this, oh paragon of virtue- do you really think Powe is in college right now if he couldn't play football? If I were Ole Miss, I would be embarassed. And as far as the SEC, it doesn't speak well of your student athletes if they can't read. |

The Powe Saga
The fact of the matter is that he has busted his butt to get this far...most athletes would have given up a long time ago. In spite of what most might think, it was his decision to bypass JUCO. Will he contribute? We won't know until he hits the field in the fall. |
