Posts: 13594 07/04/09 07:30 PM Our KB21	Tags : None on a scale of 1-10 (1 being my level of optimism for Stansbury making a Sweet 16, 10 being Bulldog Backers level of optimism when seeing a rock-hard LB'er) I'm going with an 8 I see us being very competitive and making some real strides in football. I want to say 6-6 but 5-7 is more realistic. 2009 shows us we made the right hire If Sidney gets eligible, it could be March Madness on the Board Cohen gets us back in a regional and excited about our baseball future What say ye? In each of Croom's seasons, there were at least 3 losses that could be hung squarely on Croom's shoulders. So why not 6 wins? Because we'll probably have a true frosh QB......that couldn't be any worse than our usual suspects the last 4-5 years? And another thing - it is common for a team to over-achieve in a good coach's first year. So, yeah, put me down for 6 wins. If I was betting somebody else's money, I'd go down for 7.

I think you have a new system with new and young players and not so great depth. We should be in the tournament even if Sydney doesnt make it. Baseball team is going to have so many new pieces I just dont know. I still think he is a year or two away from making any noise. I'd say mine is a 6 just because of basketball.

Posts: 1354 07/05/09 12:00 AM	for the win loss column. I'm going with a 4. I'm excited about it all but I don't see us having the outcome we want. Football is going to be a huge experiment this season with a brand new first year coach, one of the toughest schedules in the nation, and much inexperience at key positions. Then basketball I am highly optimistic but there is always that huge letdown I am expecting. And then baseball is still going along the lines of an experiment until Cohen can get these guys in and some playing time under their belts (once that happens I think Cohen's dawgs will be real dangerous before its all said and done). My optimism for the coaches is at about a 7. I can't wait to see what Mullen will do and so far it looks like its heading in a positive direction. And besides him Stansbury and Cohen are proven winners in their fields so I don't have any doubt they will do a fine job

Posts: 5562 07/05/09 12:35 AM	Well, first of all, we had a pretty crappy year last year overall, so it's probably our time to get better- at least a little bit. Football- I'm going with 6-6 at least. I think Mullen at least has a clue of what he is doing, and that alone makes me feel good. I don't think our schedule is as brutal as some people are making it out to be- it seems to me like most of our easier opponents are on the road and most of our difficult opponents are at home. If I was making a schedule, that would be how I would want it. We're a pretty tough team at home, and with a coach that knows what he is doing, there's no reason why we shouldn't win most of our games at Scott Field. I think we'll probably pull an upset just because we play so many of our more difficult games at home. And for the record, I predicted that we would go 3-9 last year- I was only off by the Arkansas game. So, maybe my track record will hold up. Basketball- I'm fired up, Sidney or no Sidney. I think we have a really good shot at winning the SEC next year, and if Sidney comes, we have a chance to do some really special things. I don't think we'll get 30 wins, but I think that we will get about 24 or so. Baseball- I think we are going to get to a regional next year. I think the pitching will be better, but they'll have their freshman moments, but Cohen has a pretty quick hook, and I think he'll figure out how to get us some wins before things get out of hand. I think we are going to see a team that is going to start taking on a more aggressive personality, and it's going to fit the players more. With Conner Powers likely gone, I think we will probably be more of a small ball team next year. Posts: 11765 07/05/09 07:36 AM	Football - I don't see any way we win more than 4 or 5 games this fall, and I could easily see us win only 3 even if we are an improved team over last year. I think Mullen will do a good job here, but with the schedule and the lack of talent, this is going to be a long year. Basketball - Pretty optimistic whether or not Sidney is eligible. Obviously, a lot more optimistic if he is. Baseball - I think the best we can hope for is to sneak into a regional as a #3 seed. Cohen played this year with Polk's players. He'll clean house for next year, but we'll be playing mostly 1st year players. That's not a formula for a great season or a deep post-season run. I think we'll start to see real results with Cohen in 2011.

Posts: 729 07/05/09 09:27 AM	I agree with Todd about the schedule. As for the coaching, I am not sure. It's not that I am pessimistic, but it's not the done deal that many seem to be assuming. Coach Mullen has said that we have talent on our team, so we should compete if he can bring it out. It does hurt us, though, that Ole Miss has its bad-assest team in decades. That shadow could hurt us a little. Hopefully, LSU and Alabama will have some problems we can work with. To me, football requires rising above expectations, 22 guys duking it out on the field simultaneously gives many opportunitiy for great plays as well as bonehead mistakes throughout the course of a game. As long as our lines can compete, we will have these opportunities. I am excited about opening up the offense, but I don't see football teams that can't run the ball win many SEC games. When given the oppotunities, the players have to make the plays. Even punting from the 30, a well-maligned play in Croom's tenure, gave our punter the opportunity to pin them deep, which he didn't, and our defense the opportunity to stop them from getting a first down, which they didn't. Opportunity lost, and I do disagree with the punt but just sayin' there's more than one way to look at it. To me, every football game is a long journey that is not necesarrily determined by the quality of the start, so I am excited and I think we need to win 6 games and go to a bowl and win that effer too. Then we'll be back on the playing field, which has been a problem for us sometimes. Basketball, I am losing optimism for getting Sidney, but I think we'll be good either way, With Sidney, tho, we should win the SEC. Not sure about baseball. I'll leave it the experts. Our Campus, meanwhile, will continue to be spectacularly beautiful. Enjoy.

Posts: 555 07/05/09 10:59 AM	last 7 years and we win 6.... ncaa screws us on sidney but with what we have coming back, this year will leave no question as to whether or not stans has the ability to get improvement from players as they gain more expereince... compete for the SEC and get to the 16... or else coach 34 gains legitimacy... didn't cohen turn things around in year 2 at ky? freshmens make immediate impacts all the time in baseball... cohen's class seems better than anything we've had in a while... we should be in the top 3rd of the sec next year in baseball

I truly believe we are in our best shape ever adminstration wise as a whole. From president to AD to coaches we're in our best shape in our history. Alot of it is based on potential and I'm aware of that but I stand by my statement.

Other than that, I totally agree. We are certainly positioned to have the best leadership we have ever had at State from the top down. Dr. Keenum has the potential to be as good or better than Dr. Z. Byrne is proven and gets it, while Dr. Z had that ass LT as AD.
