Arkansas '98 game and for me its not even close... | #41
|
Never, never, never in the history of MSU football have the Bulldogs ever won a game in such a dramatic fashion with so much riding on the line. The game
essentially secured only MSU's second SEC football title of any kind (West division). I know we had to win the OM game the next week but OM stunk that
year so the Arkansas game had everything riding on it. To win that game with 2 4th and long conversions and a made FG after having turned the ball over the
previous series when we were already in FG range was something to behold. I have also never been in Scott Field where there was THAT much banging and stomping
going on with the metal bleachers. I felt totally drained after the game and would love to relive it.

#1 Leading in the 4thQ of the SEC CG | #46
|
Had many exciting MSU Football moments, but during the time we were leading in the 4th in Atlanta, I thought I might very well die. A very close second to that was Bama 96. We'd been close so many times leading up to that one, but no one gave us a chance that night. I remember people abandoning tickets at the gate going in - hell of a night. |

Most people today don't realize how great the Bama dynasty was back then. | #50
|
Not only had they won something like 28 straight games, they had gone 104-11 in the decade leading up to that game.

'98 Arkansas was the best game I went to as a kid. I rode down there with my family from Arkansas, and the entire way down there I had to argue with a
cousin that insisted there was no way we were going to beat the #9 team in the nation.
My cousin that was at State at the time was in a frat and he put me on the goalpost and I got to ride it back to their house. They made me write cuss words all over it. I also grabbed some of the bushes like everyone else did and put them in a local restaurant that had a lot of that type stuff in it. It was cool at the time. And then Alabama in 2007 was awesome. Reminded me of how loud/fun the games in the nineties used to get. I lost my voice for the rest of that day. '99 Egg Bowl was the best I've watched. And I enjoyed being at the '07 Egg Bowl, though I have to admit I walked out before it was over. |

Great Memories! | #52 | ||

#1 - Experiencing the SEC Championship game in 1998 was amazing! I came close to falling over the railing of the the upper deck in the Georgia Dome in
excitement as Kevin Prentiss ran back the punt return for a td. It was by far the greatest moment I have experienced as a State fan. Being that close to an
SEC title in football was pretty awesome. I would love to have the experience of State playing in the SEC title game again sometime soon.
#2 - Back to Back wins over Florida and Auburn in 2000 made for two of the best weeks I have ever experienced while living in Vegas! After those wins I had no doubt we were turning the corner as a regular SEC title contender, but in true state fashion that did not happen. #3 - Beating Arkansas in such dramatic fashion to put us in the driver's seat to get to Atlanta. Not to mention having my Ole Miss buddy there to experience it with me didn't hurt either. |

I was wondering if somebody was going to mention Bama '96. | #53
|
I'll admit it's prob not #1 on the list...but that was my freshman year...we hadn't beaten Bama in "16 long years", as a fraternity brother/Bama fan liked to boast...windy and cold as hell...Stallings & Sherrill stalking the sidelines...and then one of the skydivers comes in low and hot just over the student section and augers in, breaking his femur or something...three hours & a flask (one of those big, clear plastic ones with the metal lid/shot glass that they sold at Coconut's & Corky's) of whiskey later, we hang on for a 17-16 victory & I'm standing on the field, bleeding, and fightin' for a piece of goalpost. The party didn't stop that night. |

Guess what?...Bond did NOT fumble that ball...trust me..I've seen Kent Hull the center | #54
|
talk about it on t.v. before and a year after that game I talked personally to his brother Maury.... the nose tackle knocked the ball out of Kent's hand
and the line officials saw it and walked off the field.. the game was over... the pile of humanity that struggled for the ball at that point were doing so in
vain... the game was over...

I get chills thinking about it..As well as the Prentiss return in 98'..Was in the living room with Dad watching that, Mom came sprinting in thinking he had
a heart attack, only to find us going apeshit. Wouldn't trade that for anything..

I happened to be at the Hoover Dam when I found out Croom was leavin | #58

I started high five-ing folks left and right. I received a few, "Who's Croom?s" but most people just gave me funny looks. I was on cloud 9.
But anyway- AJ's pick six. It was the biggest swing of lowest low to highest high I think I've ever had. Shock to the system.

Leaving the stadium after Fla and Aub in 2000 for me. | #60
|
There was something in the air that really cant be explained. Almost as if we knew our team was badass and we were on the football map. A certain confidence existed among everybody that we could go toe to toe with anyone on our home field. I think this was when we were in the middle of that home winning streak that lasted till that dreadful Ark game. |
