My picks:
National League Albert Pujols Ryan Howard Adam Dunn American League Evan Longoria A-Rod Ichiro Sarcasm Rafael Belliard "Because just being good kids who make good grades isn't good enough anymore."- John Cohen

a-gonzalez may be one of the most overlooked guys in the majors right now. there is absolutely no protection for him in the pad's lineup. i'm willing
to bet 75%+ of his 24 homers this year are solo shots.

Solos lead other dingers 14-10 right now. You are right about the protection though, and if they are playing teams in the wild card chase late in the season he
might not see a pitch all of September with a man on base.

was making a comment and picking my winner. I guess this is fantasy HR derby. My 8 are as follows:
NL #1 - Pujols - who else? #2 - Adrian Gonzalez has to go on pure merit #3 - Mark Reynolds is ditto #4 - I'd take Prince bc I like him better. But the more logical choice is Ryan Howard AL #1 - Carlos Pena - Mashed his way there #2 - Teixeira - Incredible and I like the guy even though I'm a Sox fan #3 - Jason Bay - Has been a force in Boston this year and has made people forget the Teixeira deal #4 - Aaron Hill/Ian Kinsler - Cause both are great and I'd love to see a 2nd basemen win this thing. I believe they're interchangeable so pick whichever. |

but on the All-Star ballot, they have a thing where the fans can pick three from each league. That's what I was basing this off of.

but he also has the ability to hit them out if he wants to. I think that's the incredible thing about him- he could choose to hit 30 home runs a year, but
he doesn't.

58% so far. just seems that no one gets on base on that team at all. i think he already has several 4 walk games this year. its bad when you get excited about
scott hairston coming back to 'protect' your slugger. ugh.

Lots of people say that Ichiro would hit boatloads of homeruns if he "chose" to. To me, it's a little rediculous - I'm not going to go all Dusty Baker and say baserunners clog the basepaths, but why NOT hit homers if you had the "choice" between that and a single, even if it results in, say, a .030 dip in AVG? And for the record, I agree Ichiro is really, really good and this isn't intended to be a flame. I've just never gotten this line of reasoning about him. |
