I cannot believe that I ever, ever, ever complained about Wayne Madkin.

I never complained about him... | #2

It always kind of irritated me when people would talk about how much he sucked. Hell, he holds just about every passing record at State. I remember one
season, his last I believe, watching him hit receiver after receiver in the chest with the ball all year long only for them to drop it. One game after putting
the 128th pass right on the money for the receiver to drop he held his hands up as to say WTF.

As bad as we thought Fant was, he is close to the top in our record books if I recall correctly | #3
|
And he did it with no line to protect him.

If you could have Madkin back, but you had to trade Russell right now, what would you do? | #4
|
Would you take Madkin knowing what he could do, or keep Russell, not knowing as much?

Madkin was a very average QB. That said........ | #5
|
Average is about a million times better than anything we've had since Fant left and Crxxms screwed up Omarr trying to make him a pocket passer. I'd
take Madkin back in a heartbeat about now.

I think Russell will have better numbers in a spread vs Jackie's three yards and a cloud of dust and lard. I'm going to gamble on the unknown and go
with Russell. I think he has a chance to be really, really good. And we have a guy that knows how to develop QB's. All of that is in Russell's favor.

I was as big a Fant fan as anyone... | #7
|
but I remember many, many times that he would have decent protection and just flat out miss his receiver. Out-routes in particular, he'd drop the ball 10
feet in front of the WR. He had a big arm and could throw the deep ball, but I never really was able to see him do that against anyone except Jacksonville
State in '02. He hit Ray Ray on a go route in that game that seemed like it sailed 75 yards.
Thank this guy.

One other thing about Fant. | #8
|
He did have a bad line, but a lot of those sacks he could have avoided. And he had a terrible habit of throwing the ball right to the DB at the worst possible
times. And that's not even to mention that he 17ing walked out of the last 2 weeks of spring practice when he should have been learning the new offese
from one of the few decent offensive coordinators we've had over the years.

Yep - one of Tyler's advantages over Madkin are that he will have Mullen | #12
|
& Co. in an offense with which he is familiar. Mullen, Koenning, and Hud is a very potent offensive coaching combination of experience and innovation that
Madkin did not have.
I'm definitely wooly about MSU football right now. BTW, who was the QB under Watson Brown (early 90s I believe)? The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug. |

btw. If Madkin is average, how bad is everyone else we've had?

that SOB found the end zone in the Independence Bowl to win the game and that put him at the top of my list of favorite Miss State QB. Great ball game!

I believe Fant was the best pure QB we've ever had at MSU.I doubt anyone who has ever played the position could take the beating he took and not be a
little gunshy.I wish he could have played with Moulds he would probably have been all SEC.He was really a good QB.Tom Brady couldn't have produced with the
line that Fant had to play with

Wayne Madkin. | #20 | ||
|
I met Wayne in the gym in Hattiesburg not long after he graduated. I shook his hand, looked him in the eye and personally thanked him for the job he did here.
Despite the detractors, the guy won. There are those of us who appreciate that.
And ... to repeat the question ... if Wayne Madkin was merely "average" then what does that say about the rest of our quarterbacks? |
