If you are a steak place.... | #4

then you have no reason for sending out well done when medium is requested. I really want to go to the one in Greenville to see how it's survived and
thrived as long as it has.

I never understood how a Doe's franchise could work. The allure of the | #5

original is the atmosphere as well as the food...provided you enjoy an atmosphere that is often times raucus and involves you either eating in the kitchen or
walking through it on your way to your table on a floor that has the characteristics of a rollercoaster. Oh, and you can get killed in that area of town also.
It's really just a good time all the way around. Isn't there one in Oxford and maybe Memphis ? I'm not sure but I would love to hear a report on
those.

Your favorite sports team scores a game tying point, you find a dollar in the street, you see someone you hate get their ass kicked in public, all of these blissful moments deserve, nay, demand the most communal of public displays of pleasure: The Landshark. |

I could buy Crimson red, erect a shrine to the Bear in my den and start Screaming "Roll Tide" tomorrow. I could buy a ton of Orange stuff, some
orange socks, orange tassle loafers and learn the words to Rockytop tonight. I could buy a case of cheap corn whiskey and find a table in the grove Saturday -
I own Dockers, have a freshly laundered heavily starched white button down collar shirt and a $300.00 Blue Blazer in my closet. I could fake all of that OM
stuff until I got good at it - Why, just listen to me, "Hotty Toddy - where's my ice" - sounds authentic doesn't it? I know people who suck
crawfish heads and follow them up with a corn dog. I like gumbo and Old Crow. I could root for the Tigers down in Red Stick (WHo dat?) right away. -

Doe's in Greenville survives off of the family establishing a client base and keeping those same type of people coming. They are a good family, involved in
the community, and people like to support that; the entire family works or has worked there, so that adds to it. I personally really like the one in
Greenville, but I know the family so I'm biased. It's packed any night you go.
They're known almost as much for their hot tamales as they are steaks locally, but even so I know they come close to losing money on those. I've heard the one in Little Rock is good from a family member... never been, and the person that owns that isn't in the family, so it's not my call. The one in Starkville wasn't owned by a family member, and the only time I ate there it was terrible. Like someone said, Oxford's gone- the part of the family that moved there to open that one moved back home and I think is helping there again. |
