Posts: 90 06/21/09 08:57 AM	Tags : None It always kind of rubbed me wrong how Coach Croom would go on and on about Alabama while he was supposed to be our coach. sports related There was a big article this AM in the Starkville paper about General Grant and a researcher at MSU making a big fuss about how great he was. I have seen this guy make a career (at least maybe the end of his career) out of promoting the accomplishments of Grant. Now we have some sort of display or something here at MSU? Does it rub any of you wrong that Grant effective kicked hell out of Vicksburg and now we are making a fuss out of how great he was? Maybe he was great at kicking the sh*t out of people and should be celebrated, but does it really need to be at MSU? I wouldn't have to go far to find a researcher that says ethanol and biodiesel are BS and a net loss, but they probably aren't going to be winning awards at Iowa State any time soon. Curious of any opinions. Locking would be justified, but hope you don't.

If the South has used comparable terrorist tactics against the North civilian population there might have been a different outcome. Not that the South would have won but a negotiated end to the war (and an end to slavery) would not have set the South back 50 years compared to the North.

But now, after a little bit of history under my belt, Grant was as big of a genius as Lee for their time. Who cares if the celebrate his legacy? BUT, you all know that when someone makes a documentary/biography/gallery about R.E. Lee, red flags would pop up everywhere.

Posts: 3340 06/21/09 03:27 PM Manager of Deathtöngue	What played a major role though was the fact that the previous executive director of the U.S. Grant Association, a prof at Southern Illinois, was accused of sexual harassment by SIU, the association moved to break from SIU, and shortly thereafter the SIU prof died of a heart attack. You can read more here. I wonder what the terms of the agreement between MSU and the Grant Association are though. Will the papers move again when Marszalek no longer is the Grant Association's executive director?

Posts: 10 06/21/09 04:56 PM	Occured on part of my farm just North of Vicksburg. My grandmother was very proud of that. The army still studies the battle. Grant realized he could not take Vicksburg without monstrous casualties, and decided to seige. Good military move.

It was just a disorganized cluster<17>, and a big reason why the war went on so long was because the North had crappy generals like George McClellan until they finally gave the job to Grant.
