on to say that all of the guys that would normally be worthy of the H of F from the "steroid era" should go ahead and get voted in......His rationale
for saying that was that steroids were so prevalent, uncontrolled, and rampant during the 90's and early part of this decade that everyone was doing it and
that they should simply be noted as having played in the steroid era.......I kinda, sort of feel the same way but what do I know as I think Pete Rose should be
in the Hall as well......

Let me put it this way- it's not cheating if everyone else was doing it. And it's not cheating if there aren't any rules against it.
The HOF kind of has a double standard- they let guys who brag about cheating and are notorious for it- Don Sutton, Gaylord Perry, and Whitey Ford (And for the record,I have no problem with them being in) and yet the media had big time campaigns to get a couple of those guys in, and then some guys use roids or whatever and it's the end of the world. Cheating is cheating. You could make an arguement that those guys boosted their stats because they were cheating just as legitimately as you can the steroid guys. And I'll admit, I was naive after baseball came up with their steroid plan. I thought, well that's the end of it. Anyone who does it is stupid. Well, after A-Rod, and Manny and hearing about some ameateur players using them, I now realize that the game is just as "tainted" as before. It's all a matter of making sure you take your masking agent, which Manny apparently didn't. I just can't believe that the media can't figure it out. As far as Pete Rose- I really, really want him to go to the HOF, but my conscience can't allow it. The difference is when you are a manager and you're betting on baseball and stand to gain financially and you have that much potential control, it's a very, very dangerous thing. I know Rose bet on the Reds to win every time, but if you let him slide, there is the potential that some manager down the road may tank games to gain financially. It's more about the potential future ramifications than it is about Rose. I've heard the ban Rose the manager, elect Rose the player solution, which is somewhat wishy washy. Honestly, I'd rather see Shoeless Joe Jackson allowed in vs Rose if I had to choose between the two. One last thing about the HOF- until Jesus decides to play baseball, every player is going to have some flaw. There are racists, assholes, alcoholics, and etc in the Hall. And if you have a squeaky clean image like Sandy Koufax, well, your career is too short. If your Willie Mays, your career was too long. If your Ted Williams, you didn't win a World Series. If you're Steve Carlton, you didn't talk to the media enough. There's a reason why no one will ever be unanimously elected to the HOF. It's because you have pussy sportswriters voting on the thing. They should change it to the players because they know better than anyone who belongs and who doesn't. "Because just being good kids who make good grades isn't good enough anymore."- John Cohen
"This league doesn't care how hard you try. This league cares about having real players who can perform certain skills. If you try to throw a fastball in and you miss the middle of the plate, the league doesn't care that you're a really good kid. The game says you better execute the pitch." - John Cohen

I believe Manny's problem was that he was taking a masking agent, and he got caught with the masking agent. If I recall, it was some sort of female drug
that he got caught taking that served no real purpose for males other than masking steroids.
And I agree that players from the steroid era shouldn't be treated differently for Hall of Fame status. Sosa and McGwire were juicing which enhanced their numbers in comparison to players from previous eras, but they were still better hitters on the juice than all the other juiced players during their era. |

I agree wholeheartedly. Had the MLB come out and said this at the beginning of this mess we wouldn't have to deal with this media circus everytime
somebody is shown to have roided up...

Well, after A-Rod, and Manny and hearing about some ameateur players using them, I now realize that the game is just as "tainted" as before. ....he tested positive back in 2003. I'm like you though. Anybody testing positive in the last year or so is a scum bag. The law had been laid down and the damage it was doing to baseball was evident, yet you STILL were doping? 17 you. And that goes for Manny. |
