It wouldn't surprise me to see USM win today... | #1

Obviously they're the underdog, but let's not act like they can't walk and chew gum at the same time. They've listened all week to how they
have no business being there. Meanwhile, I'll bet Texas is already scouting their second game's opponent.

Plus they are riding some nice momentum. | #2
|
They probably the hottest team there and that means a lot. In no way am I saying they are going to win the tourney, but that's how Fresno won it last year.

Texas is throwing their 2, but he hast started game 1 of the Big 12 Tournment, regional, and super regional.
and really with texas, they are all that damn good. USM is going with Todd. USM will have to win by scoring lots, which has not happened much against Texas. Texas is going to score. |

Anything can happen in baseball | #4

but I would be surpised if Texas doesn't win tonight. Augie Garrido is not going to look past USM. He has won way too many of these for that to happen. If
USM's wins, it's because they beat them straight up.
I think Fresno State was the exception rather than the rule. I believe Fresno also had Tanner Scheppers who was a first round draft pick last year as well. Texas has a ton of talent as always. But we'll see, I don't think USM is going to get blown out either. I just think Texas wins. "Because just being good kids who make good grades isn't good enough anymore."- John Cohen

I would be surprised to see USM go very far because... | #6
|
they kind of remind me of our 07 team in that they (like us in 07) really don't belong in Omaha but happened to get hot at the right time. In fact, USM
was even closer to not getting an NCAA bid this year than we were in 07. Now, that being said, it would be amusing to see them beat mighty Texas today.

I was going to ask if there was a 10 run rule at the CWS ... | #7
|
But instead of asking, I'll just watch this game and see for myself.

I think Southern can keep it close. | #9

Texas has an awesome pitching staff, but they are probably the worst hitting team in Omaha. They were 9th or 10th in the Big 12 in batting average.
Texas will win, but they aren't the type of team to blow people out. |

Our team in 07 | #10 | ||
|
was hardly 85 MSU caliber, but we had some pretty good talent on that team. Our pitching was lacking because of McNickle, but we still had Weatherford, Easley,
Moreland, Turner, and Rea. Some of those could be in the big leagues in the very near future.
I just don't understand why people dog that team. Yes, we struggled down the stretch, but that was mainly because of injuries. If he had stayed healthy, I think we would have hosted a regional that year. Plus, we were a 2 seed, so we didn't really slip in by any means. UT is a good team...no doubt....but Big 12 did not turn out... | #11

to be a great conference. If USM plays up to their potential...they can hang.

Yes, we had a few pretty good individual players that year BUT... | #14
|
we were the LAST SEC team to get a bid in 07 (the only one not to host a first round regional) and we just looked plain overmatched once we got to Omaha. No
way do I think we go to the CWS that year had we been forced to go to Clemson for the SR.

We were overmatched against Louisville no doubt, but against UNC we were doing good until we had our slip up which stole the latst bit of momentem we were
still riding.

So, because the SEC was really strong | #16
|
that year, it means we were overrated?
If we were a three seed or a 4 seed that year, I could see the arguement. But again, if we don't have those injuries down the stretch we finish better than we did. I don't think we should apologize for putting up more money than Clemson, either. There are advantages to having big crowds and a nice stadium, to. As far as the CWS goes, I think that was a case of just being happy to be there. By that time in Polk's career, he had resided to making our team goals to having a "nice" season which to him just making a regional.
