has pushed 80 school districts to switch to the 10 point grading scale, which will help with Mississippi kids qualifying.

Wait, school districts can do that on their own?... | #3

I didnt' know that.
And the guy that originally was the head of the gameplan was an ass't at ole miss. That's why everyone thought that. Orien is a good dude. |

Who thought that? MSU has pulled more in-states than we have for a couple years | #4

It'll help all in-state schools if the in-state prospects start making their grades at a better rate.
Given Mississippi's history as a state academically, I'd bet that without Game Plan, you'd probably be seeing at least 8 of your 21 in-state signees not making grades this year (possibly more), and that's assuming a good academic year for Mississippi prospects. Instead, the majority of the in-state players you signed are going to get in school. That's a good thing for all programs in the state. |

and I think the results speak for themselves.
This makes me feel a lot better about Mullen's desire to really focus on Mississippi. MS has always had a lot of players, it just hasn't had a lot of players that qualify. |

So Pat Patterson qualified? | #7

I thought he was tanking his grades so he would have to go to JUCO and then sign with MSU in two years? Since the mean old Rebels forced his parents to sell
him to them against his wishes.

Yep. Local Option. | #8 | ||

I remember the one year the academy I attended went to a 10-point scale. I loved it-- best grades ever. Of course, the next year, the scale was changed back
to what it had been before.

I think all high schools should move to a ten point grading scale... | #9

It would not only help athletes, but it will help other students gain more confidence and get more kids in college.

Whatever the scale is, it needs to be uniform across the board. School districts that refuse to move to the10-point scale when others have are not only
hurting their athletes that are borderline qualifiers, but regular students who apply for merit based scholarships are prejudiced as well. The state junior
college system had the same problem at one time. Northeast's math and science departments had a difference grading scale than the rest of the college due
to the scale at ICC.
I'm not stubborn enough to say, 'This is our offense, this is what we're doing,' even if we don't have the personnel to run it.--Dan
Mullen, 1/5/2009
But dont worry your head, we have zero chance of winning the SEC Tourney--Coach34, 03/09/2009 |
