Great sports traditions. |
Lead | ||
|
Got to fooling around on youtube tonight and started thinking about all of the great, recognizable sports traditions, both college and pro. I'm talking
about things that any real sports enthusiast would recognize. Two of my favorites are from CBS. Probably my favorite is their closing out every NCAA
Tournament with the "One Shining Moment" montage. Also, their intro to the Masters with the smooth voice of Jim Nance announcing "A tradition
like no other". For us race fans, although the event has lost some of its appeal over the last few years, the playing and singing of "Back Home
Again in Indiana" prior the the start of the Indy 500. Give me some more good ones.

It is a cult.
Your favorite sports team scores a game tying point, you find a dollar in the street, you see someone you hate get their ass kicked in public, all of these blissful moments deserve, nay, demand the most communal of public displays of pleasure: The Landshark. |

Scared the hell out of me at the time, cause I didn't know it was coming, but I was one of the poor saps STILL in the State section @ Florida back in
'01 (I think)... It was either start of the second half or possibly even the start of the 3rd quarter and the whole f'n stadium stood up, locked arms,
and started some chant while swaying side to side. That was our signal to leave, but it was quite impressive to see the entire stadium working together as one.
...just for shtis and giggles, does anybody know what in the world is it that they are doing? |

They sing "We Are the Boys from Old Florida" at the end of the 3rd quarter of every home game.

And what's the rather involved little routine that BYU does during games? i know they did it everytime they scored, maybe more...
It was my first time to sit up in the new upperdeck when BYU rolled into town that year undefeated (must've been 02?) We gave them a pretty good game, but everytime they did something good, they had some cheesy little chant they did. I couldn't understand what they were saying but as I was in the upperdeck, I was surrounded by them. They mocked my cowbell with their stadium cups of ice, so I would return the favor and mocked their little skit when we got a sack or whatever minute thing we might have done to our benefit. It was all in fun, but for the life of me, don't have a clue what they were saying. |

but the f'n croom error killed that. Damn ammo was dudded by the time that Fer figured out how to run a f'n play.

I've heard several... | #37 | ||

stories regarding the origin of "Hotty Toddy," but I've never heard the Marine one. I think the three most popular involve Faulkner's
alleged drunken rant atop Ventress, a play on the 19th century phrase "Hoity Toity," and the drink.

* Throwing marshmallows from the student section. Since they don't fly particularly well on their own, they normally slide a quarter in them for good
distance and speed. Pity the cheerleaders at that end of the stadium.
* Hail to the Victors - neat song. * Ice Hockey at Yost, the student section's cheers are legendary. Enough Big 10/11, I know - sorry. |
