When I heard him scream | #1

I thought the same thing. I had to turn it off immediately for my speakers and because I cannot stand him and the fact Ole Miss is on the verge of Omaha
again.............

Worst I've ever heard out of him and that's saying a lot. Compare that call to Ellis' call of the Masters grand slam. They aren't in the same
class at all.
Kellum: GO! GO! GO! GO! GONE!!!! I expect announcers emotions to slant in favor of their team. That makes it fun. But to be a total fan instead of a professional behind the mike just sounds bad. They could put any joe homer fan behind the mic and they'd be as 'good' as Kellum. A few minutes before that, the other team hit one to the warning track and it was caught by the Rebs for an out. Kellum gave no indication to where the ball was going until he yelled at the top of his voice "CAUGHT AT THE WARNING TRACK". Just left you hanging until there was something for him to yell about. Pathetic. Also noticed in the one innning I listened to that he had very little commentary to offer - just facts as they happened (or when he felt like skipping them as I mention above) and his brand of joe average fan yelling in the mic. I hate that guy. |

That was pretty cool that you guys got Dan Maclaughlin calling your games. | #4

He is the play by play guy for the Cardinals.

I can't stand Kellum.... | #5

BUT, I don't think there's anything wrong with having a homer announcer. The Yankees announcer is a real idiot. It sucks for the other guy listening,
but I wouldn't expect anything else from UM. I do think Ellis and even an old Jack are eons ahead of Yellum Kellum.

I was listening through the computer | #6

on the ole miss site. I figured it was the easiest place to find the game without digging through the interwebs

If I have a complaint about Ellis | #7
GimpyDawg wrote: It's that it sometimes seems he pulls for the other team too much. OK, I know he's a Bulldog, and no I don't want him necessarily be a total homer, and I don't mind if he's fair- I would actually prefer that- but you'll be listening to him and he'll say stuff like "Well, Alabama is looking for a double play ball from the Bulldogs, and THERE IT IS! They got it. Go ahead and rip me. "Because just being good kids who make good grades isn't good enough anymore."- John Cohen
"This league doesn't care how hard you try. This league cares about having real players who can perform certain skills. If you try to throw a fastball in and you miss the middle of the plate, the league doesn't care that you're a really good kid. The game says you better execute the pitch." - John Cohen |

I was actually about to say the same thing about Ellis. | #8
|
I wish he'd have at least a little "fan" in him. He's a 180 from Kellum, no doubt. I had an Ole Miss friend with me one day and we were
listening to a State baseball game. Ellis said something with a little enthusiasm and my UM buddy said, "Looks like y'all did something good."
Nope, the other team did something good. Of course, he is use to hearing Kellum.

He overcompensates in that way entirely too much... | #10

Nothing pisses me off more in a nervewracking game than hearing Ellis and his "ya gotta give (opponent) credit!!", etc. This isn't Little
League. Let their own announcers give them credit.

I hate his slang | #11 | ||
|
I don't listen to many other teams play they may all be like this, but Kellum is always gets stuck on some slang term. Today was "cutter" as in
"Wow there was a mean cutter, started high and the cutter dove right across the plate. That cutter is gonna give us trouble all day, I guess the batters
are having trouble picking up the cutter."
During football its "twins" "Twins out left" "Twins out right" Twins in the back field Twins out right and left. And I for one enjoy Jim's style of *almost* unbiased announcing.
Porkchop say, "When I say I have a woody now, does that mean I have a turd in my pants?"

Shitty announcer.

No Jim, I don't have to give Maine credit for beating us! I am pissed!! ![]() |

He don't pull for the other team too much ........ | #14

He's just "fair & balanced" (sorta like the great one, Jack). I work with his son-in-law & forwarded him the Master's grand slam
audio a few months back (he loved it, as we all do). In his prime, Jack was as good as it gets in both football & basketball. I would say the same for Jim
in baseball. May just have to listen to the Master's slam again tonight (hopefully we will have more moments like this under Cohen & soon).

I'm rarely one to defend Kellum... | #15
|
But, regarding sounding professional behind the mike, it's always seemed to me that some of the greatest calls have come when the announcer sounded more
like a fan (Not that I'm comparing Kellum's call to them. It was too <17>ing loud).
For instance, Run Linsday run. |

First, I think Kellum sucks as an announcer, but it has nothing to do with him being a homer. I love it when school radio guys are homers, and they should be.
That's the best part of a big play happening. When you can watch the highlights from a big game and get the team radio broadcast alongside it with the
announcer going nuts on the call, it's 10x better than watching a highlight with Musberger or someone else faking some emotion on the live call.
Kellum sucks because he's not good at describing live action, he uses cheesy phrasing, and he just comes across as a goober, not because he's a homer. Some of the best team radio announcers out there were huge homers. Larry Munson was and will always be the best in my eyes, and he was far from objective, ever. Another example of this is how when you had big plays in the 2007 football season, everyone wanted to hear Jack's call of the play. That's because you wanted to hear the real emotion of a Bulldog fan making the live call. Jack is a homer, but he does not suck.

There's a reason they call him "Yellum Kellum" | #18
|
He looks for an excuse to start yelling. "Deuce off tackle, HE'S IN THE OPEN!!! ONE MAN TO BEAT!!!
AND HE'S JUST TRIPPED UP!!!! Second down and 8."

Sandroni is the yin to Kullum's yang | #19
|
I like Sandroni a lot. Granted I only listen to about one Rebel football game per year, so maybe I'm wrong here. But that guy, as a former coach or
whatever, seems real good at breaking plays down. After hearing Kellum fumble the play call, Sandroni steps in and explains in great detail what just happened
and why.
If you guys don't want him, send him here. I'd like to see Ellis & Sandroni replace Cristil & Ellis. |
