Congrats to the Rebs for making it to another Super Regional |
Lead | ||
|
It was worth those last many years of Polk to watch our instate rival make it to an SR about at least every other year.

Unfortunately, these Rebs are going deep in the CWS this year | #1
|
i hate 'em --- but they are deep in pitching, they are clutch and they have a great true freshman that will just keep getting hotter in June - sucks, but
Bianco deserves it.
Thank goodness we hired Cohen - i can't stand this much longer |

losing bittle hurt. and i think virginia is better than them to begin with. they beat a 4 seed and went 2-1 against the 3 seed. pomeranz had a great
performance, but i wasn't at all impressed this weekend

I think Virginia beats them. | #3
|
Pomeranz threw well this weekend but outside of him they don't have anyone else who is consistent. Irwin has been good lately. I think they will have
trouble scoring runs off of Virginia, and you have to wonder about how well Pom will hold up next weekend.

I hope Virginia does.

Well, I was damned impressed. | #5

But, after watching the bullshit I have seen at DNF the last two years, I would be impressed by a good t-ball game. Still, a complete game on 2 days rest and
a school record 16 K's? That's nucking futs.

I am assuming Pommeranz will get the rest for the friday game. I dont know really know much about pitch counts but three long starts within 7 days is
ridiculous. I hate to say it, but Bianco did what he had to to stay alive.

Virginia has better pitching and | #8

coaching. I'm not sure about hitting.They won ACC tourney, beat nations #1 pitcher and allowed UCI only 1 run over two games at UCI. May turn out to be an
unlucky draw for Rebs. Virginia's RPI is now 4.

I can't believe you people even think they have a chance. Those cocksuckers will choke.
"Now he's got me on the war path and all I can do is hurt him," Polk said of Byrne in a phone interview with The Associated Press from Athens, Ga., where he is watching Georgia play North Carolina State in an NCAA super regional. "I'm going to do everything I can to make his life miserable." wow.... |

Sigh. I'm afraid this is the year that Mississippi fans finally need directions | #11

to both Omaha and Atlanta.
And a special thanks to both Crooms and Polk for giving us the least talented teams in the last twenty years of both sports while they are set up nicely for very special years.

Better coaching? | #12 | ||
|
Some guys are so anti-Ole Miss they just make stuff up. Bianco comes with flaws, but can you even name Virginia's coach? Thought so.
Here's Virginia's last few years and results: 2004 - Hosted a regional as #1 seed and lost to #4 Princeton and #2 Vanderbilt. Went 2-2. (This team had current MLB staples Mark Reynolds and Ryan Zimmerman) 2005 - Traveled to Oregon State regional as #2 seed and went 0-2, losing to the 3 and 4 seeds. (This team had Ryan Zimmerman on it) 2006 - Hosted a regional as #1 seed and lost to #2 South Carolina and #3 Evansville. Went 1-2. 2007 - Hosted a regional as #1 seed and lost to #3 seed Oregon state twice. Went 2-2. 2008 - Traveled to Cal St. Fullerton as #3 seed and went 1-2. Prior to their recent Regional win, they've never won a Regional and Brian O'Connor was their coach through the above regionals with some superior talent. He went a total of 6-10 before the recent 3-0 run in Irvine. That puts him at 9-10 in the last 6 years, advancing to one Super Regional. Here are Bianco's numbers on the other hand: 2004 - Hosted a Regional as #1 seed and went 0-2 losing to #4 Western Kentucky and #2 Washington 2005 - Hosted a Regional as #1 seed (#5 National Seed). Went 3-0. Then hosted a Super Regional and went 1-2 against Texas. 2006 - Hosted a Regional as #1 seed and went 3-0. Then hosted a Super Regional and went 1-2 against Miami. 2007 - Hosted a Regional as #1 seed and went 3-0. Then traveled to Arizona State for Super Regional and went 0-2. 2008 - Traveled to Miami as #3 seed and put out #2 Missouri and #4 Bethune Cookman before losing to #1 National Seed Miami. Went 2-2. Prior to the recent Regional win, Bianco's teams have advanced to Super Regionals 3 times in the last 5 years. His teams have gone a total of 13-10 before the recent 3-1 stretch at home. That puts him at 16-11 in the last 6 years, advancing to 4 Super Regionals. But yeah, schmuck goldenwavedawg claims Virginia to have better coach. -------------------------

when we were having our coaching search discussions last year, Brian O'Conner was mentioned quite a bit on this board.
Cohen was my personal first pick, and O'Conner was my second. I'm pretty sure that Sanford R. Jones will back me up on this. "Because just being good kids who make good grades isn't good enough anymore."- John Cohen

it's totally legitimate to consider virginia's coaching better than ole miss's, even with the regional records for 2004-8. i do like your post
season descriptions, though. seymour hersh in the making.
and, yeah, the people here do know a good bit about o'connor because he was a (rumored) candidate for the state job last year. |
