How about this novel approach to recruiting? |

that pulling some or even most of the high quality talent in Mississippi will still not make you competitive in the SEC. Glad he made a statement with last
year's class that we want the best talent from Mississippi, but the fact remains that arguably the best player in the state left. Rod Woodson was arguably
the best pure football player in Mississippi and he got the F out. Until kids like this show up in vegas, we have to go get other state's leftovers.
Other state's leftovers > Mississippi's leftovers.
We simply have to recruit Alabama, Louisiana, Texas (Houston), Georgia (especially Atlanta), Memphis (Melvin MFn Satchel) and the Florida panhandle if we're going to ever get and stay competitive.

I think the best SEC state's to recruit, in order are:
1. Florida (obviously) 2. Georgia 3. Louisiana 4. Alabama 5. Mississippi 6. South Carolina 7. Arkansas 8. Tennessee/Kentucky Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana in particular all have more quality talent than the top in state schools can sign in a given year. Alabama will have some, but for the most part Auburn and Bama will have room for the majority of the SEC caliber talent in the state. That's why I've always wanted our coaches to go to Florida, Georgia, and Lousiana for players when they go out of state. Of course Texas is always a good place to go as well, though it can be tougher to get those players since they grow up on Big 12 football. |

I don't think Mullen just discovered this at all. He's been hammering the "5 hour drive from Starkville" thing since his initial press
conference. Hell, he immediately went into Alabama upon being hired in an effort to steal some Auburn recruits. Further, I think people are reading a little
too much into the number of Mississippi kids in the 2009 class and how that relates to Mullen's recruiting philosophy. He obviously wants to dominate
Mississippi every year but I believe he was smart enough to realize that Croom had handed him a good crop of in-state kids who were committed and had a chance
to qualify. The staff was then good enough to go add guys like Bumphis and Thames. It will always be easier for a new coach, with 3 months to recruit at his
new school, to make his initial splash in-state where the recruits associate with the name on the jersey more.
I'm not stubborn enough to say, 'This is our offense, this is what we're doing,' even if we don't have the personnel to run it.--Dan
Mullen, 1/5/2009
But dont worry your head, we have zero chance of winning the SEC Tourney--Coach34, 03/09/2009 |

the "we don't say Ole Miss" thing is stupid, petty and I wish Byrne would tell him to shut the hell up. I like him not being afraid to talk
about what other schools are doing, etc.. and talk a little trash is fine with me, too many coaches are so boring but that Ole Miss stuff is stupid. Living
in Oxford there is no doubt there are just as many Rebels obsessed with MSU as some State fans are of Ole Miss but this just makes it look like our coach is as
well..
I realize he's just trying to be funny but it is too easy to spin it... cue Bruiser's reply... |

Does it bother you when people refer to them as "Mississippi"?
When taking the SAT, select "Greg Byrne" for every answer. You will score over 8000.

I'm willing to bet to 75% of MSU fans out there it's music to their ears. I'm sure they think it's great. Bottom line: he's playing up to
the majority of the fanbase.

I could give a shit what he calls them as long as he puts up some wins. Wins allows most fans to be alot more passive of the stupid shit.

Apparently there is a certain element of any fan base that responds well to the trash talk. It's the same people who can't bring themselves to admit
Ole Miss has a good baseball team that put 20 conference wins up on the board.
Mullen tried to 180 Kiffen's childish stupidity, but ended up doing a 360 instead.

or just not use that term. I don't mind him taking shots at them every now and then amongst our fans, but I would prefer he not use that term. Calling them
Mississippi would be fine, it could become a little MSU tradition where we only refer to them as Mississippi. However, I would prefer he use Saban's
approach to Auburn. Don't say shit about them, just mop their ass in recruiting and on the field.
|

Shmuley |
It's not completely accurate ... | #17 | ||
|
that Saban "doesn't say shit about [Auburn]." He refers to them as "our opponent in this state" as in, "We have an opponent in
this state that we intend to dominate 365 days of the year."
He's very Mossad-like. You know he's destroying them but you can't figure out how he's doing it. They just seem to self-destruct. Like hiring a guy who was 5-19 at his current spot.
