Does it apply to message board posters? ... | #41

Dude, it's words. It's words. It's time for the smell of female secretions to get out of our baseball program. It's time for Ron Polk's
mother's influence to leave our program forever. It's time for player's Moms to shut the F up and stay the F out of it.

"That said, in today's society where people seem to have a hard time admitting that they weren't good enough, and then working to get good enough,
it's a lot more convenient to blame someone else and portray yourself as a victim."
what I was thinking. The players on this team remind me of my kid coming home and complaining about how unfair a test was at school...that the teacher didn't tell them something was on the test or they never went over that. Then I call the teacher, or go up there, and the teacher shows me everything they covered and that my kid didn't even bother to read the instructions. Then I come home discipline my child in the respect that I will never be put in that position again. But apparently our baseball players don't stretch the truth..they are being treated unfairly. And their parents will blindly defend their baby til the end. |

MagnoliaHunter wrote:My father never cursed me. Then again, my father has been a pastor for 30+ years. My coaches never cursed me either. They just knew not to. Except one. My father politely pulled him aside and he never cursed me again. On this guy's team, I was his second best pitcher and every game that I didn't pitch I started at either second base or shortstop. Nobody played harder than I did. Nobody wanted to learn more than I did. Nobody loved the game like I did. Cursing me out didn't make that so. It's a shame that many of you are unaware that the world doesn't have to be a crude and boorish place. Everybody didn't grow up the way you did. A smart coach would be aware of that and make the appropriate adjustments. I'm done. You guys carry on. |

question for you | #44 | ||
It's a shame that many of you are unaware that the world doesn't have to be a crude and boorish place. Everybody didn't grow up the way you did. A smart coach would be aware of that and make the appropriate adjustments. So how would you suggest Cohen proceed? Should he cuss at some players who don't mind it and not cuss at others who do? If so, should he not cuss at those who don't mind it while in front of those who do? Or should he be even handed with everyone and not cuss at all or cuss and yell all the time at everyone? Maybe he should hand out a questionnaire at the beginning of every season and ask his players how they like to be motivated. The funny thing about Cussing Gate is that it wouldn't be happening at all if we were winning more consistently. Hopefull that changes in the coming year or two.

I never said Cohen should cuss | #46
|
I never said a coach SHOULD cuss a player. However, if he does the player shouldn't talk back. High school and college players shouldn't talk back to
coaches. PERIOD. I've had coaches that cuss, and I've had coaches that don't. Either way, they were the authority figure, and I didn't cross
it. No wonder we go 3-9 in football and under 0.500 in baseball. We've got 20 year-old college players talking back to coaches.

"This league doesn't care how hard you try. This league cares about having real players who can perform certain skills. If you try to throw a fastball in and you miss the middle of the plate, the league doesn't care that you're a really good kid. The game says you better execute the pitch." - John Cohen |

and very much doubt that it did if the only evidence was second or third hand info from a player's family member who doesn't like Cohen anyway. I
think its great that Cohen is a hardass and I don't really take issue with him throwing around foul language from time to time if that's his
personality. No doubt our current players have been coddled to the extreme. However, there is a difference between cussing in what you're telling someone
and directly cursing someone by calling them a VERY derogatory term. We don't allow coaches to call people the n word or other ethnic slurs, and by the
same token, we shouldn't allow a coach to call a player such a demeaning term as what was stated here. Stupid is fine but the following term is over the
line. It doesn't bother me now because at this point I have no real evidence to believe its true, but if it was, I would not like it. Respect goes both
ways, a player should definitely respect his coach, but by the same token a coach should have respect for his player unless that player has done something so
out of line as to no longer deserve that respect. And IF an act like that has been committed by a player he should either no longer be on the team OR being
serving a lengthy suspension.

and will be so glad when he is cut after the season or quits.
The damn idiot hasn't listened since the day he set foot on campus, not to Polkie and now Cohen.. Polkie let him do it his way cause he "is a nice boy"... But all these bulslhit outs running yourself out of an inning at 3rd are all on BUTLER. |

Over the years (during the Polk tenure), I came across | #53
|
parents (like many of you have) that thougth their sons were the best player in college baseball and felt like they had a voice to share that with people. I
have met many that stayed at Starkville hotels and after the game, some parents would be unhappy if their sons did not play or got pulled in a game. They all
seemed to be "experts" at what the coaching staff should have done.
I think some of this is BS and some of it may be sour grapes by some parents that are disappointed. I think the players... or at least many of them, have had to learn a new way of playing baseball under a competitive coach. I would imagine if Coach Polk was young again that he might do the same thing as Cohen. The internet was not around to hear all the good and bad things that Coach Polk would have done when he was Cohen's age. Competitive and agressive coaches have a hard nosed mindset to winning. The players have been shown a lesson in life from Coach Cohen. I am sure next season will be different and we will see a much more hard nosed team. For the parents and relatives that read the message boards, you better know that coach Cohen means business and if you cannot handle being in the kitchen, then you may want to look elsewhere. |

From someone who cowers behind vehicles at tailgates and bums tickets off anyone who will give one up, I don't see where you have any reason to put anyone
down.
Just think about your life and what people have done for you and then go crawl in a hole and shut the heck up you sorry piece of crap. |
