We don't land Sidney if we didn't win the SEC Tournament thus giving us a NCAA tourney bid.
I support the two most frustrating teams in America: The New Orleans Saints and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

However, I think it helped with his dad more than it did with him. The 2008 run to the SEC tourney very well might go down as a major turning point in our
program as we beat a very good LSU and UT team to get there. If we can win another SEC banner next year, get past the second round and put a player into the
first round of the NBA draft we would have the clout we need to recruit what will be won of the best classes of basketball players (2011) since the Henderson,
McDyess, Harrington and Dampier days.

You could be right, I do think he just sorta wanted to come back to Miss. | #2 | ||

I know he probably had options, but I wonder if he really fit "in" in Calif.

Too many intangibles. Too much of this whole ordeal depended on how things turned out between him and the schools he was originally focused on. I'll agree with captaindawg that the NCAA tourney birth and SEC tourney championship probably helped change his father's opinion although. |

Soft buy. There is so much "What the hell just happened?" going on, hard to pin this one down.
I vote based on how an early loss in the SECT would have allowed the season to end on a general downward turn (or so was the perception of the media--moreso than what those paying close attention.) Now we (before the signing of RS and JR) were already picked as "first 4 out" by Linardi. Without the NCAAT we would not even be on the national radar. Hard to see a 5-star player, trying to get exposure for a potential NBA draft, going for a perceived losing team. Anyone reading the media, would have been pointed to Ole Miss as THE team on the rise. The SECT quieted that. (I feel like one of those people who logs on to a news website poll just to mark "I don't know.") |

you should probably change the buy/sell to:
We don't win over Sidney's dad if we didn't win the SEC Tournament thus giving us a NCAA tourney bid. Other than the normal teenager attitude at times most of the problems with Sidney seem to revolve around his dad's longing to live through his son. He makes Hopson's family look normal. |

The only reason we won the SEC tournament is because Stans got lucky, and the only reason we got Sidney is because Stans got lucky again. If Stans doesn't
play the lottery then he is truly missing out. Easy money.

I think the biggest reasons we got Sidney were because of his relationship with Romero Osby and Dee, the fact that Stansbury didn't stop contacting him in
the recruiting process, and maybe a very little bit because Mississippi is his home.
I'm not saying that making the Big Dance and SEC Tourney had no affect at all, but I don't think it was teh biggest factor, and I think we might have gotten him regardless of our run last year. That said, our run certainly didn't hurt us either. "Because just being good kids who make good grades isn't good enough anymore."- John Cohen
"This league doesn't care how hard you try. This league cares about having real players who can perform certain skills. If you try to throw a fastball in and you miss the middle of the plate, the league doesn't care that you're a really good kid. The game says you better execute the pitch." - John Cohen |

I think we HAD to make the tourney for this to happen.
I don't believe he'd have gone to someone eh perceived not to be a contender but still poor enough that he'd get truly significant playing time |
