Has this incident diminished Mullen's decision-making ability in your mind?

credibility perhaps, but not decision making with respect to football.
but few coaches have true credibility. not a big deal from any perspective. |

I like the idea of bringing Sherrill in, but it was dumb to have him coaching on the field. Still, no big deal though.

Mississippi State is a member of the NCAA because it 17ing has to be to play Division I football. It's not because they love the bylaws or have a hard-on
for the leadership of it.

I think he meant well, but he didn't realize that NCAA infractions follow Jackass Sherrill around. He should have, however, made sure that dipshit was
nowhere near our players, so in that regard, he made a poor decision to not keep an eye on him. Obviously, he thought Sherrill would know better.

I'm okay that the Kang came to practice, but Mullen should have had a better understanding of what he could and could not participate in. He is at least
knows that the only recent success MSU had was under The Kang and he is trying his best to relate the new team to that...hard to blame him for that. Made a
mistake that was minor....lets move on.

Is Cleveland really comparing an experienced football coach at a football practice, with a drunk and disorderly arrest, three idiots talking about their
perversions on air, and a retard who got a citation and threatened a cop?
State screwed up at little by NCAA rules, but they didn't break any laws.

There is nothing wrong with Jackie being at a practice. Tons of schools bring back the past people of success every year and I am sure they help out. Big
@%%++$@ deal.

Compare Rick's take on this great sleazy blunder of having an old coach at a practice to Ron Higgins take.......
New Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen figured it was a goodwill gesture and a smart move to invite former State coach Jackie Sherrill to an April 10 practice as a kicking coach consultant. Turns out the school had to report Sherrill's visit as a secondary NCAA rules violation because he was seen interacting with players during the workout. NCAA rules allow for the use of consultants to train the coaching staff, but consultants are not allowed to interact with players unless counted as coaches. And there is a limit on the number of coaches allowed at practices. The reporting of the violation is curious because at last year's Ole Miss-LSU game, Danny Nutt, younger brother of Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt and not a member of the Rebels' coaching staff, is clearly seen in TV replays interacting with and apparently coaching players on the Tiger Stadium field in the heat of battle. As long as the NCAA is nitpicking about a silly rule, let's nitpick equally. ... http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/apr/21/ron-higgins-notes-sec-west-spring-practices/ Also this line by Cleveland brings to mind DS and HD's pot and kettle photo...... If you know Jackie, you know he couldn't help himself. He's an expert on, well, Jackie is a self-anointed expert on everything.

No. It just looks like a rooky head coach mistake to me. | #17 | ||

I personally don't see a reason to bring the poster child for NCAA infractions (alleged of course) to practice. Mullen definitely has the right to consult
minimally with Jackie on how to win here at state but bringing him to practice simply isn't necessary. I also think it confuses those players who worked
under the crooked hat because he constantly bashed jackie as doing things the wrong way. Our players need a completely new direction. Bringing Jackie back in
to talk and interact with them links us too closely with the past.

DerHntr wrote:The reason he brought him is because he is the only coach who has had any amount of success at MSU. He has not been personally linked to an infraction at MSU. Boosters, and some lesser assistants but not him. Yeah it was on his watch so he gets the ding. |

Having me around will always get you into trouble apparently. Hell, Taxas A&M never had me back for a reason. Mullen should have known the rules but this
is not a huge violation.
