thats redundant.....there is a reason they say niknar co | #41

In all fairness, Rankin is light years from where it was 30 years ago, helped mostly by an influx of out of staters moving into the county. (who don't know
it is a faux paux to drive around with a niknar county tag)
There are some nice areas, but still to many self rightous Talibaptists who still live in the 1800s |

I hope you never buy beer at El Sombero... | #42

it's 100% markup from getting it at a grocery store.

Do you know the markup they put on skirt steak? I would buy it at a grocery store... | #43

and take it home and cook it.
And queso? That stuff costs about 12 cents, yet they charge three dollars!! /see what I did there?

Yes and the funny thing is... | #46

there are like 3 or 4 mexican establishments in a 1/2 mile radius.

That's bullshit. Nothing goes as well with mexican as a nice margarita | #47

it really makes everything taste better. Mississippi really needs to join the 20th century.
Yes, I did that on purpose.

I've been to Pinelake many times and know many people that go there. It is by far the most progressive Baptist church I've ever seen. They're only
Baptist from a theological standpoint. Certainly not from a cultural or political standpoint.

El Sombrero = just about the only decent Mexican restaurant in the Jackson metro area. | #49

And the liquor vote doesn't affect me (I'm a beer drinker and don't live in Rankin Co.), it does strike me as being utterly ridiculous that there are places in this country where you can't sell, buy or possess alcoholic beverages. |

Many religious conservatives HATE the government, unless it is protecting their viewpoint. Many non-religious liberals LOVE the government, unless it is
protecting the viewpoint they don't like. See why I am a Libertarian.

I'm not sure what you mean by Church Board Members (Pinelake is a staff lead Church, overseen by Elders), but I doubt any staff member or Elder would
openly support it. These men are pretty much the same that were in place during the last county-wide vote and Pinelake strongly supported voting down hard
liquor sales in the county.

...way to resist those secular progressives who want to force the devil's brew on the innocent children of Flowood.
Making all the pro-alcohol liberals drive 300 yards west into Jackson to purchase their beer is definitely a successful deterrent. |

Forgive me for not using the proper term. "Elders" is what I meant.
Perhaps a few of them "voted" down previous attempts, but I would like to see evidence of them fighting it this time (and last time for that matter). I don't buy it. I know Tim Smith pretty well (senior associate pastor) and I can assure you, they are not fussing about it. Unlike your traditional Baptist churches, Pinelake believes in the free will that God has given us. In other words, make your own decisions. In case some of you guys who want to assume it is a Baptist Church, it really isn't. Try going to a service or two and meet some of the "staff" and you will see they are not as "judgemental" and "stereotypical" of modern society as your traditional Southern Baptist Churches. If they were, I would not be a member of Pinelake Church. With that said, isn't it amazing that MS has dry counties yet we have parole boards releasing cold blooded murderers? Good ol' twisted Mississippi Politics. THANK YOU

The mark up in a restaurant is generally huge anyway... | #59
|
You are right though, restaurants get their highest margins on liquour...but that does not mean you're getting a bargain on your tacos and fajitas. Not
only that, high mark ups are not limited to food and drink. Furniture in particular has a pretty high markup. What do you sit on at your house, left over
pickle buckets from a local sandwhich shop?Basically, you're paying for a pleasurable dining experience. For some people, alcohol adds to the dining
experience. Other the other hand, some people are tightasses and get a thrill out of getting a mailbox full coupons that provide a $2.00 discount on the buffet
at the local Ryan's. The thought of getting plate after plate of Macaroni and Cheese for a whole $2.00 less than they typically could inhibit's their
dining experience the way a nice glass of wine does for others. It's all a matter of preference. So what's wrong with giving people a choice?
The thing that irritates me is that these people want to stand in the way of the democractic process simply because they are afraid of the outcome. They say the people should not have a say. If the Bill was to allow a vote on BANNING liquour which was already legal, you can bet they not see it the same way. Not only are they opposed to the people of Flowood being able to decide for themselves, they are opposed to the State legislature allowing the people of Flowood to decide for themselves. |
