Yes and before they built that entrance to Pinelake, the only way to get to the church was from LAKELAND. Durrrrr.

Rankin County and Flowood has done | #23

very well without selling/serving hard liquor. 10 years ago the argument was Rankin will never grow without allowing liquor sells, obviously that argument has
been proven faulty. Rankin County's success has been fueled by selling a vision of family friendliness, low crime, morality and good schools.
The people who have flocked to Rankin are not deterred by the county's liquor law, if you don't like the law you can always live in South Madison County (a very good place to live) or Clinton. Don't whine about no hard liquor, the vast majority of residents do not want the laws changed (many would probably be in favor of doing away with beer sales). You can always enjoy your favorite beverage in an establishment in Hinds or Madison, there are more than enough nice restaurants in those municipalities to keep everyone happy . On a more practical note. Don't waste your money buying liquor in restaurants. The markup is incredible, save your money for wiser uses. I make six figures and drink water when I go out to eat. I don't drink, but if I did, I would buy it at a package store and drink it at home. |

Well, there are plenty | #24

of us who live in Flowood who would like to have fine restaurants to eat at in Flowood. This is my biggest problem with the current set up. I love to drink
but don't mind driving over the river to the Quarter to get my liquor. I want the Ruth's Chris, Brennan family type restaurants instead of the
Applebee's type shit. We'll never get that with the status quo but instead be known for all our sandwich shops, yea. I guess we'll continue to
have people drink and drive from further distances back home to Flowood as well.

When we had the last county-wide vote | #29
|
on this issue, Pinelake openly lobbied against passage (i.e., keeping the status quo). I think it was addressed from the pulpit, but can't remember for
certain. Pinelake would still be against a change in the liquor law if it came up in a vote any time in the near future. Interestingly enough, Pinelake is now
in the Flowood City limits.

What's your favorite restaurant in the Jackson metroplex? Is it in Flowood on Lakeland Drive? | #30
|
Given your six figure income, you obviously have your choice of anywhere in the tri-county area. I'd like to know where you spend your money.
If you want to know why I'm asking, it's this: you say Rankin County and Flowood has done very well. I would say that depends on your definition of 'very well', and I'm guessing that you and I have different definitions. That's not a slam, I am in a business that kinda relates to this discussion, and I'm really curious about the mindset of shoppers like yourself. Welcome to the HUMP...for HOOOOPs. |

let the rankin county rednecks hang out at logan's roadhouse and sonny's bbq. all of their residents wind up buying liquor in Jackson anyway,
contributing to our tax base. Have fun at trustmark park, you 35 year old men with your 18 year old tooties. Hot dates at sizzler are the best.

Out of curiousity... | #32
|
Do you really expect a pastor to come out in favor of passing liquor laws? What does it matter, if Pinelake was against it? I guarantee you that Chip can't
stop the damn bill. I'm all for passing the law, but the fact is Rankin County votes against it everytime it's been put up for a vote. Unlike the Obama
administration, maybe the legislature actually cares what the majority thinks?

My favorite restaurant on Lakeland is El Sombrero | #35
|
I'm not into fine dining at all, I ate at Biaggi's the other day and was under whelmed. I like Mexican because it is reasonably priced, tastes good,
and the staff hustles and acts like they actually want your business.
If you read the book The Millionaire Next Door, research proves that most people with money, live, act and spend like they don't have money. I have no problem with drinking (as long as it is not to excess), I do however, have a problem paying for items with huge mark ups (like liquor sold by the glass). |

The Parker House
Julip's Bravo Nick's PF Chang's Cheddar's McAllister's Applebee's Logan's Saigon See the difference? No? How about Belk's & Kohl's vs Talbot's & Bananna Republic. Or Holiday Inn Express vs Hyatt. Own homes much? Property value? OK, Rankin Co is better than it was 20 years ago. So what. So is Madison Co. The growth in Ridgeland & Madison over the last 20-30 years has absolutely dwarfed Rankin. And alcohol is at the core of it. And no, its not as simple as people wanting to drink in a restaurant. Alcohol opens the door to a huge chain reaction of high-end development. This has been proven countless times in other cities. Its not even debatable. And for all that crime, alcoholism, and drunk-driving fear mongering - have a look at Madison Co and get back to me on how scary it is to live over there. |

Where are you guys getting the idea of involvement of Pinelake in this? | #40
|
Just curious. I haven't seen anything referencing their opposition. I happen to go to church there and it is a far cry from hell of being anything like a
traditional southern baptist church (I'm not even Baptist). I have also had conversations with many of the Church Board members and several of them are
nowhere near being against alcohol sales. In fact, one of them is quite the wine conisseuor and he is very outspoken about it.
THANK YOU
