I have little faith that Ricks Rowdies will have anything special for AK and the Rebs. However, maybe they'll step up to the plate and surprise me.

to have free transportation to the road games (Stans chartered a bus) and because I could get their 10 minutes before tipoff and be in the first five rows. I
didn't wear a T-shirt at the home games but would wear a "Road Warrior" T-shirt at the road games.
Now...that was the one and only year I did it. I got tired of being grinded by the fat chicks during the game. |

The main things that the rowdies do that I disagree with are the "This is *clap clap* our house *clap clap*" cheer, the horrible nicknames, the noise
during the free throws, and the general lack of knowledge of the game of basketball. The hands up for the home team free throws are fine, as is the
maroon-white cheer, the de-fense cheer, and the big finger is funny. As far as anything "new," I don't know what new types of things really need
to be added. I just wish the majority of the folks would learn about the game of basketball. I think that would help the atmosphere quite a bit, actually.

I couldn't agree more with you drummer. "This is our house" crap is absolutely horrible, but I think what is the worst about the rowdies is that
they think they are like duke and north carolina because when state makes a good basket or is on a streak about 5 of the "rowdies" start to jump up
and down like this is cameron indoor or something. It is ridiculous to watch. So whoever that rowdie is that responded on this thread tell your friends to
stop being idiots and just cheer for our dogs.

Ok, point by point.
What is wrong with having a chant about having pride in defending your home court? especially when the team goes on a big run. To each their own though. Not everyone will like all the cheers understandable. Which nicknames are so horrible? Swat? Double Duece (Barry stewart is #22) or Stew, 3-D ( Dee Bost #3) or Da Boss, Ray-Ray for Ravern,... A lot of the names were given to us by the players. Are you really complaining about people doing random stuff during an oppenent shooting free throws? Well shit ill tell everyone to sit on their hands and shut up from now on.. And lastly, sure there might be a lack of basketball knowledge by some in the group.. but every game they learn more. |

but they make it nearly impossible. the rowdies on the first two rows should have to take basic basketball iq tests in order to retain seats each year. until
then, or signs of improvement, listening to the rowdies will continue to be the equivalent of having teeth pulled

I was just watching the Kansas - Texas A&M game and the Kansas student section had big printoffs of Cole Aldrich's head. So instead of chanting the
nicknames after each player scores or makes a big play, use a big printoff of each player's face instead.
Note: This is not a joke, I would actually like this much better than the nicknames.

I like the idea, but since im not near a tv at this moment i have some questions.
Is Aldrich's the only one who has a printoff? and when they held the printoff up did they not chant his name or a nickname? surely the crowd didnt just go quiet? Good idea on the signs though, can you tell if they were made by the students, or was it something done by marketing as a give away? If anything like that is done with the rowdies, it will be an individual effort, as the leadership within is still screwed up.

Download a press guide for the next team you play. Have a committee find their strengths and weaknesses. Find something you can mock a player or coach about
(See, I gave you about 4 or 5 just off the top of my head, and I'm an old fart with no imagination).
Surely you have some Liberal Farts majors who'd have plenty of time to study up on this, so the engineering students can simply read the handout, put on the masks, buy the prison garb, and slather each other backs with body paint. Study Duke's Cameron Crazies. Those guys have actually done studies of what works best to disrupt a free throw.....the best method is absolute quiet while the shooter comes to the line and dribbles the ball (and, no, do NOT count the number of times they bounce the ball dubmasses), followed by a spontaneously loud yell just as he looks up to shoot the ball. Of course, being a Ricks Rowdy, you're probably saying, "Thas thar's too hard fer me. I's kin barely waap mah ass with that thar newfangled toilet paper stuff" and you'll do the standard "ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE....WEEEEEEEEEEEE!" followed by silence after he makes the free throw.

As best I could tell Aldrich was the only one with the printoff and I think it's a student made thing because it was pretty big and I doubt anyone would
give away such a large object as a promo or something. Also, I couldn't tell if they were chanting his name or anything, but it seemed as though it was
just normal cheering for a good play so they weren't quiet by any means. I don't mind nicknames for people, I just don't like the chanting of the
nicknames. Maybe I'm in the minority on that topic but I do like the signs.

Mutt, im so glad you used your common sense and pointed out all that. I've never heard of this google thing.
Now come wipe my ass for me.. Seriously, we do look for things to use against a player or coach..but sometimes there isn't a lot to be found. and sometimes there are limits we run against, seriously one of the "administrators" of the hump keeps a close eye on the group and has even told us not to say "sucks" this year. And in my spare time, I have researched many of the different student sections, trying to find out their structure, and ideas to make ours better.. (Florida, Michigan State, and Illinois are some of the best) Frankly, the whole makeup of the organization sucks but I'm not getting into that here. The core of the group is about 50 people who actually care, and we aren't hard to find at a game. Ill look for that study you mention from duke, many people follow that example. but not everyone because most of the people in the group pay their $10 just to get a shirt and don't care about the group.and i really dont blame them. Now go sit down and sit on your hands you old fart. |

I have the game on now, and if its the same heads they just showed when coming back from halftime, they had one for almost everyone on the team it looked...cut
in the shape of head. nice looking.
I'll agree with you on the chanting of names kinda, some people have started doing that this season when a player makes a basket, I like it when it is a big play..but only do it a couple times, they are doing it a good 5 times, and the shot clock is almost over for the other team. that is stupid. I'll see is we can get some facial pics or something we could blow up, but since all of this is done by individuals instead of the group it starts adding up.

What was great about those first three years or so was there was WAY more participation by people not just in the lower section... is that at basketball games its not about being all cheery and yelling for state its about completly ripping the other team. if you get the front row seats
where the away team warms up and all you do is clap and be all happy for state its a complete waste...theres a group of guys who get the front row seats
sometimes and actually know what to do with the seats, which is get completely wasted and yell obscenitites at the away team when they warm up...ive seen it
several times and ive also seen the rowdies come over and tell them to stop because its "inappropiate"
face it scooba the rowdies are a freaking joke dont tell me you cant say suck you can say whatever the hell you want youre just scared to do it i was in the front row a few years ago for the vandy game and we looked up their bios and found that one of em had a tattoo of their dead brother so me and my buddies made sure to remind him exactly how dead he was get over yourself and instead of being o yippy its swat and 3-d we love you yay like a bunch of queers dont even focus on our team and instead destroy the other team |

It was a running back we had named Culberts or Culbertson or something like that. I don't think he lasted the year but while we had him he ran over a
few...The dude C ran over that started the "he got his bell rung" didn't get up for a while.
The mike man was in Dugger Hall -- If I wasn't trying to think of his name I could remember it. It might have been Joe. I too was at the game. Don't remember any old ladies booing. They weren't in the student section anyway. |
