They are getting desperate....Then again it would be hard to convince just about anybody to come be Saban's whipping boy
Let it go folks. We have a good coach in Coach Croom and if we hang in there like the team is staying together, two years from now we will be SEC West

I honestly think that at Auburn this has as much and maybe more to do with Bobby Lowder as it does Nick Saban. Saban is somewhat of a deterrent, but you can
win at Auburn even with Alabama being good, mainly because you are so close to two states that are loaded with football talent (Florida and Georgia). I think
the main reason they are having trouble is because coaches in the coaching fraternity know how good of a coach Tuberville is, and they know how poorly he was
treated (mainly due to Lowder). They look at that job and realize that there is absolutely nothing they could do to make Lowder happy. They may end up in a
spot like we were in 2004, having to sign an option that's way down the list.

I spent four years at Auburn, from 03-07. Tubs lost only a handful of games during those four years and owned Bama, and it was ridiculous the talk that was
always going around about how Lowder wanted Tubs out.
He's about to get what he asked for and I'm thinking he'll find out the grass ain't greener. |

I think the whole Petrino-gate thing is a big factor. That happened in 2003, the off-season before AU went undefeated. Yes, the President and/or AD got fired,
but all the coaches in the world know that it was Lowder that was really behind Petrino-gate and not the scapegoat administration.
You may or may not agree on this (I said it on Nafoom the other day), but I really think there are maybe only 10 current coaches in the college game that I would say would be an upgrade from Tuberville. There are others that I would call maybe a push or a lateral move for Auburn, but only 10 or less that I would say would be an upgrade, and all of those coaches have jobs that they will not be leaving. So, in the end, I just don't see how Auburn will be able to upgrade. Maybe they'll be able to find an up and comer that's the next Bob Stoops, but I definitely don't think they'll be able to make a hire that would look like an upgrade immediately. |

Lowder must be the booster of all boosters...Everytime I hear anything about Auburn football I hear this guys name. What business is this guy in and how does
he have this much control over the football decision making?

This hire would kinda make sense if it happened. Hes a former auburn defensive coordinator and knows the program and can recruit. Only problem is that auburn
needs to kinda do what we did and go get an offensive minded guy to actually run an offense. They ran some ugly combination of the spread and the I form with a
little ace back mixed in, and it didnt work. But if they are able to get chizik as the head coach, they may be able to bring in a guy like former auburn QB Pat
Nix, then it wouldnt be so bad. But unless a big name appears, this is really starting to go downhill quickly for auburn. They are obliterating their commit
list, and they have no head coaching rumors to wow recruits into staying. Auburn could be down for a while the way things look right now.

........and get a new coach. It was a much easier upgrade for us. It's another thing to fire Tuberville, a coach who had done just about nothing but win
for Auburn, and expect to somehow upgrade from him. Just think, if Auburn hadn't been screwed out of the BCS title game a few years ago, they likely would
have won and there's no way they'd have thought about firing Tuberville.

but no way in hell do I trade Tubs for him. He'd be a good choice if Tubs had took another job or something.
Auburn will be hard pressed to upgrade.

I made a short list the other day, including Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Butch Davis, Jim Tressel, Mack Brown (maybe), and Mark Richt (maybe). Outside of any of those names and maybe a couple more, I don't see how Auburn could feel like they definitely made an upgrade, and none of those coaches are leaving. They could go out and make a hire that turns out to be better than Tuberville, but I don't see how they could land someone that would justify Tubby's firing immediately. |

you cant seriously measure his success(or lack thereof) at ISU and try to project that onto how he would do at Auburn. ISU is awful. they are beyond awful.
and they were beyond awful for a good half decade before he came in and took over.
ISU is the MSU of the Big12 North. Mcarney left that program destroyed. he did some serious damage to it in the last few years, and just like at MSU, it takes awhile for a small time program in a big time conference to turn things around. the fact that Chizek hasnt done it in 2 seasons shouldnt be a surprise to anyone, and really shouldnt be used to measure his worth as a coach. he was the DC at Auburn when they went undefeated and had like 11ppg against them. he was the AHC at Texas...i hear they too were successful. he has been at programs where success has come. i suppose it could be coincidence, but i seem to think he knows the game and knows what it takes to win...its just that you cant possibly turn a program like ISU in that conference around in only 2 seasons. would he be a good fit for Auburn?...who knows. i would hope there would be more established HCs that would want that job...but apparently not. not many coaches could have done much better than him at ISU in the first couple seasons. the lack of talent he had to start with was staggering to see. maybe other coaches could have won a game or two more...but that isnt much for their position. |
