I never thought Munson had a better broadcast voice than Jack. Can't really say about Ledford and Ward, but they couldn't be noticeably better, in my
opinion. I think Jack is too low on that list, but I'm probably somewhat biased.

Ward was a good one for UT and Munson is a legend but I never really cared for him. I biased but I've still got to put Jack in the top 2.

I always though Jack had the best voice of the SEC broadcasters. But Jon Ward was the best at calling the action while mixing in his trademark phrases.
Ward was best calling basketball......"Did he make it? HE MADE IT." "...shoots.....BOTTOM."

Jack | #5 | ||

When does Jack become too mentally impaired to continue? I am just asking the question. He is a bigger Bulldog Icon than Polk, and I have been a fan of his
for over 30 years. However, over the past few years, his ability to get things and names right has slowly eroded. Yeah, "Randy" Stewart is kind of
funny to many folks, but may not be funny to Barry. So, when does the voice of the Bulldogs hang it up? Any thoughts?

He should hang it up now | #6

He does a lot better with basketball than with football. In football, its clear he can't see or follow all that's going on. Often you don't get a
description of the play as it happens. He needs to step back now while he's still got his dignity. I hope he doesn't go all Ron Polk on us.

he's always been objective so Im not asking hiim to go Kellum on us. But if you listen to some of the big plays this year, its almost as if he doesn't
even give a shit about what's happening out there. His big play calls are just bland.

Barry should be thankful | #8

that he is getting an oppurtunity to get his name messed up, he could have been at a lower no name college playing in front of 1400 and be getting his name
called right on the radio.

I agree that it has to start with Munson, primarily because his calls are so unique. There is a Youtube video out there that covers a lot of his bets calls.
While you sometimes might have a hard time knowing what exactly happened, you know whether it was good or bad. I don't even like UGA, but I can get behind
Larry Munson.
And I agree with Ward being up there. He was annoying, but he was unique in the way he called a game. Jack might have a better voice for games than all of the others. The only thing that I think keeps him from being at the top is the fact that he doesn't really have any true signature phrases, and he doesn't say a whole lot of unique things like Munson has done. Munson has the "hob-nail boot" call. And his "Run Lindsay Run" call on the Lindsay Scott TD against UF in 1980 was wild. He even said something along the lines of how he came through his chair and the booth was falling apart, followed by talking about how there would be some property destroyed that night. I don't know that Jack has had any signature calls like that. |

I have to disagree with any praise of Ward from UT | #11
|
A basic of broadcasting is to know the basic rules of the game. Listening to a UT game one night and he got livid that the clock was not running during a PAT. |

We could have quite a long thread talking about Cristil-isms | #14
|
The guy has a lot of unique sayings and a unique delivery. He and some of his calls aren't as instantly famous because he broadcasts for one of the
worst football programs in SEC history. If he did games at Florida, LSU, Bama, etc he would be much more well known and some of his calls would be considered
on the same level or above those of Munson.

He said calls which are unique not phrases which are used ad nauseum for lack of imagination.

from Jack. After a football game we got pounded he said, "The Sonic drive of the game will be my drive back to Colombus." That was good stuff |
