then I woke up in the hospital alone and feeling like i was shot in the stomach,but the fever was making me delusional and i thought i died, then my nurse walked and said your lucky and i said why and she said i almost died and it was a miracle i was still here

that were transporting Alaska barriers from Tikrit to Baghdad in the middle of the night. Manning the gun, a bomb got our truck. I was facing the direction the that the bomb came from. I saw bright, then felt hot on my face, then woke up 10 minutes later. The turret was still spinning when I came to and the dismount in the back of the truck pulled me in. I was later med-evaced to a Baghdad hospital for brain injuries and vomiting blood. Later we were told that we should all be dead, but...

I was in University Hills and wound up running between 2 trailers to escape the tornado. Was going to duck behind the porch of the trailer on my right, but the wind blew me down on the ground closer to the trailer on my left. So I crawled until my upper body was under the trailer. Next thing I know the trailer I'm under picks up a few feet off the ground and comes back down with one of the I-beams its sitting on landing probably 6 inches from my head. That trailer on...

and two other guys, all the while I am screaming " Check Fire, Check Fire" into a PRC 77 handset. We on the wrong side of a MSL (min safe line) and in the worng place at the wrong time. That is a scared as I have been so far in my life. One hummve didnt fare so well but we all walked away unhurt.

that she had "milky" white skin and a burning red bush (or should I say forest) that needed cut....I couldn't have cut that shit with a weedeater, a sling blade and a bush hog..I was drunkern' hell and was beginning to sober up when the burning bush spoke to me and said "Don't do this"........I played possum and acted like I passed out........Very frightening experience......

9/11 might be the most worried, not scared, I ever was. I was nowhere near the event. But I was trying to start a family and had serious worries about the country's future - suicide...

I guess I was about 13 or 14 at the time. We were building a fence with 4x4 posts in the ground and we had 1x6 slats going across. The fence had a sort of spline shape to it so each slat was nailed to one post, set against the other post towards the other end, and pushed in the middle until the free end of the slat was against the post it was to be nailed to. Well, my dad was pushing and he had me stand and see when the slat was curved enough. He was doing a slat that was about 5'6"...

Watching the twin towers both fall from less than 8 blocks away and feeling the Earth shake. Also seeing people jump out. That was the most scared I will ever be.

hunting Guntersville Lake, we had a floating blind that we had to paddle a small jon boat to get to from the bank. Dad stepped out of the blind into the jon boat, I was about 13, still watching for ducks, turned to see how far he was from the blind, and the jon boat was upside down. I never heard it flip over, I was kicking my boots off when his hand came up on the opposite side of the boat, then went back down. He came up and grabbed the blind, I helped him in the blind, got the boat turned...

Anything that you've done or been involved in that was scary and/or dangerous? Maybe something that you could have been in but just missed by a little time or distance?

When I was a student at State, my best friend and I were driving back to Starkville from Jackson late at night. Highway 25 was barely getting started on 4-laning, so I took the Natchez Trace to Highway 12 route. It was the night of January 1st or 2nd, and no one was on the roads. Somewhere in the middle of...
