You pretty much nailed it when describing the breakdown of the fans in Columbus. It was amazing to see how much Bama paraphernalia increased on people's vehicles last fall (and also the decrease in LSU stuff).

Lack of leadership is the biggest reason why CHS hasn't done better - there doesn't seem to be a lot of pride in the athletic program either. I don't see them getting much better anytime soon due to this.

But Dennis Allen hasn't been the coach at WP for four years. His last game came in 2005.

I am from Columbus and think there are many factors in why they have not been good. I don't think that they have had the best coaches. Schools like New Hope, West Lowndes, Caledonia and all the private schools in the county takes away talent. They are competing against better teams like Starkville and West Point all the time. And I don't think allot of the kids are really into the team or even play due to outside influences like the streets around there. I had friends who where...

I think Columbus High School has a lot of potential, but there just seems to be some disconnect there for some reason. I think part of their problem in football is the fact that they are in the same district as South Panola, Olive Branch, Tupelo, and Starkville. It's probably the most difficult football district in the state.

If a lot of people move into there, that could help them out a lot, but I think a lot of people that do move in will...

Yeah, Coach Rush (Lee High) became the head coach when they combined. He deserved it. However, I can understand the team/coaching staff having an adjustment period because there was a rivalry between the two schools. But it has been 15 years now.

I think it is going to take more than the town growing to help their program. If it is like it was in the 90s, they need to build up the pee-wee leauges. They need an adminstration willing to hire...

I seem to remember they just combined the two coaching staffs top to bottom. That couldn't have been good for morale or much else either.

With the industry moving to that area, the population will grow. More talent will emerge. And Columbus will become a larger contributor.

But, Columbus isn't as much of a State town as many think it is due to proximity. A lot of my family lives there and there is a high % of OM fans.

Best I can recall, the year before the two combined, Shannon beat one by 7 and lost to the other by 7. The year after they combined, Shannon beat the new school by 35. I wasn't familiar with the history of the Columbus programs prior to those two seasons, but the combined team seemed to have a major identity crisis. The 11 they put on the field looked like studs, but when the ball was snapped they were on 11 different agendas. I seem to remember they just combined the two coaching staffs...

and she has always said there was general lack of football spirit in the town. I'm not just talking about the fans, but that the best athletes did not play football. To me, it seems like a good coach could come in and build a successful program. They are a long way, however, from the top-tier teams in their district.

would take on a bigger role, somehow, with MSU sort of like Opelika does with Auburn. hell, the whole golden triangle should be one big united area, in pipe dreams.

If you want to see what MSU could become, look no farther than Auburn. and whhile I hate Auburn, it's not a bad idea to take some of their ideas and apply it to our own. Wouldn't hurt to make 25 an interstate or something.

Someone give me the scoop on Columbus Falcon football. Particularly why they have not faired any better than what they have. Back in the day, we had two 4A schools. Caldwell had poor coaching, no off season training, and little interest from the student body in general (I will not speak for Lee as I did not go there). Just show up for spring practice, two-a-days, and run the wing T during the season. So, I can understand why we were not that great. But, I was sure hoping when they...
